... I want to help set expectations on the outcome of today's game.
I just saw David Hale's most recent blog posting, and felt obligated to share a few nuggets here.
And I quote:
I can't help but think back to last year when there were reports of fights between players at practice and Richt was smiling ear to ear talking about the renewed physicality he was implementing for bowl season. This week certainly hasn't seemed like that. If anything, it's more business as usual.
-- A&M has produced 101 plays of 20 yards or more this season.
-- A&M has had eight 100-yard receiving games this year.
-- Georgia hasn't won the turnover battle often this year. Meanwhile, the Aggies have won 15 of their last 17 games in which they were on the plus side of the turnover ratio.
-- Aggies freshman tailback Christine Michael's name is pronounced "Chris-tin" because his parents wanted a girl.
The illustrious Mr. Hale practically makes my argument for me. Ultimately, when contemplating this matchup, I just can't escape the following two issues:
- Texas A&M is treating this game like a reward and special event, has extra motivation to fight and win, while Georgia wishes they were almost anywhere but Shreveport, and is content to treat this game like "business as usual" (per the above quote).
- We simply don't match up well with the Aggies, who have a prolific offense, a great QB, and
greatvery good receivers. And their running back has to be good, too, because any boy named Christine who grows up to be a Division I-A running back has to be super-tough.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be jumping up and down and yelling the Dawgs on in approximately 5 hours... but I have this feeling that I had shortly before the Tech game in the pit of my stomach. I was proven wrong on the previous occasion... I don't think we'll be so lucky today.
Nevertheless.. Go Dawgs!
