Dadgum it...
you beat me to it!!! I cannot possibly imagine what is going on. Think maybe it’s his father’s health? I hope it’s nothing bad. WOW!!!
Very surprising but it doesn't guarantee a Georgia victory next year
heard it while watching the Pitt-UNC bowl game right now. It’s quite shocking he’s stepping down, but from what ESPN said, it was due to health reasons or something like that. He’s a great football coach with a ton of talented players, too good to pass up on another year of coaching. It will make a few Georgia fans happy. I wonder what’s next

Now is not a time for statements about athletics
Coach Meyer is obviously going through a very difficult situation right now, and our prayers are with him and his family.
As Kyle has said many times, our rivalries are institutional ones, not personal ones.

And almost as soon as I write that statement...
… I hear some talking head on the radio start talking about who might replace Meyer. Well, as long as the speculation is young…
For what it’s worth, we all know that Bobby Petrino has multiple copies of his resume sitting in an express mail package on his kitchen counter, just waiting for an address label. If memory serves, Sir Bolt-a-lot was also one of the leading candidates in the job search that resulted in Meyer’s hiring. Just a thought…
Also, as far as I know, Charlie Strong has only been announced as Louisville’s coach, but hasn’t signed a contract. Would the Gators want to bring him back?
Finally, I think that Stoops just ain’t leaving Oklahoma. Bob Stoops and Mark Richt are examples of the same coaching affinity situation… their affinity was to a person, not a school. Stoops was Spurrier’s man, not necessarily a “Florida guy.” He’s built his program at Oklahoma, and I don’t think he’s leaving (voluntarily).
With all of that said, of course, our prayers and thoughts are still with Coach Meyer and for his health and physical well-being.

its amazing the speculation that is already underway
its natural to think on the impacts to the UF, but the rest is just guesses. Its so early. I absolutely dont see Stoops leaving – it makes no sense. And, I imagine if UF wanted Strong, we would already know that.
For what it’s worth – i was dead on wrong about Meyer. I thought his offense had no chance in the SEC. He really is a great coach.

Some commenters on ESPN
are saying that he has battled brain cysts for years and that after the SEC CG he was hospitalized after passing out from one. They are speculating that the condition has worsened and he has stepped down to focus on defeating this.
I love my Dawgs, but I don’t wish any ill on any SEC opponent. God Bless Urban Meyer, his family, his doctors, and all those he’s touched through his coaching.

I wish him the very best and good health. He will be back

I do hope he is alright.
All of the kidding I do aside, Urban Meyer is a good and decent man. As a husband and father myself, I can only imagine what he is going through. Coach Meyer will be kept in my families prayers for sure.
I think Erk Russell could have kicked Clint Eastwood and John Wayne's butts with a corn cob and one hand tied behind his back. GATA!
Now the word is
the problem is a heart defect. Either way, prayers still going out to Meyer and the UF family and the players he’s coached.
Sincere show of class by yall
You’ve done a much better job handling the news than some other blogs.
Best of luck Monday afternoon – time to start the SEC Bowl run. If nothing else, I now like our chances better in the Sugar. The game has suddenly gone from completely insignificant to a major headline.
Word is that he is going to stay with the program in some capacity. “Director of Recruiting” would make me extremely happy. I also hope that his health problems are handled quickly.

you must have been reading the ESPN blogs. There’s a lot of stupid stuff going on over there right now.
As was mentioned above, the rivalries are simply fun and games, not life and death. I have several friends that I wage “war” with over the games, but never about them personally or the men and women who coach their teams. Urban seems to be one whale of a coach and apparently a good guy to his players as well. I don’t expect him to take it easy on an opponent on the field, that’s not the way to play.
Thanks skigator93 . . .
all usual kidding aside I think the denizens of this site tend to agree that Urban Meyer is one heck of a football coach, and nothing he’s done on the football field is reason enough for anyone to wish him ill health. Here’s wishing him the best.
i don’t see how you could argue otherwise…i’m sure i’m not the only one who’s selfishly glad right now we won’t be facing him in the coming years
