Apparently, Hiring Mark Richt Was Kind of a Big Deal

I do not mean this in a negative way...
… but that is one of the biggest “Well, Duh,” headlines of all time. (I understand that you were intentionally making a monumental understatement… but still.)
Everyone should read the entire linked story, but here are a few excerpts:
We’ve had some opportunities over the years, but when I found out that I was a possible candidate for this job, it was the very first time that I got really excited and eager about the possibility of making a move. … It’s a place where we feel like, not only is it going to be a perfect place to raise our family, but we think it’s a place that we can win at the very highest level and a place that’s very committed to being a great football progam and is a great football program. – Richt quote when he was hired.
(Richt’s) accomplishments include:
* 2 SEC Championships
* 3 SEC East titles
* 6 seasons of 10 or more wins
* 8 straight seasons (2001-08) ranked in the Top 25 in one or both polls
* 0 losing records in the SECRicht’s record in his nine seasons at Georgia is 89-27 overall, 50-22 in the SEC.
His tenure at Georgia has permanently rearranged the top of the Eastern Division…
When you also consider the following statement made by David Hale on his blog:
The 2009 season ended just two weeks ago, but it’s obvious that Richt is taking a far different approach this time around. I don’t want to say he’s re-energized because, if anything, firing his friends was emotionally draining on him. But I do think he is taking a sincere look at what has worked and what didn’t, and like so many of us outside the program, sees immense potential next year if the right decisions are made. It takes a lot for someone with his success to erase the blackboard and start again, but that’s what he has done. It’s hard not to be impressed, and I think there’s every reason to believe that the next three years can be pretty special.
It’s hard to conclude anything but a) Mark Richt has already been one of (if not the) most successful football coaches ever at Georgia, and b) the future ahead at Georgia is still bright for Mark Richt and for the entire Georgia Bulldog nation.
