The Legend of the Jorts
I just read this story regarding the origin of the now wildly popular jean shorts insult. I have always wondered where the saying came from (and have always contended that there are just as many jort-wearing UGA fans as UF fans. Some of the article is obviously written in jest, but I am wondering if there really is a Kevin Davis and whether he is the originator of the insult.
I consider Kyle the authority on all historical UGA matters, so I'm wondering - is it true? Or has the jorts insult been around longer? I surely can't remember hearing anything of it when I was in school (c/o '93). If you don't know the answer, we may have to consult Cale Conley, who is pretty much the authority on the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party (although I beleive his book may have pre-dated the jorts era).
Enjoy your Homecoming this weekend,

The jorts insult
I have never understood the jorts insult. That is not an earthshaking stat because there are so many things I do not understand. If jean shorts are the isse I have seen a number of young ladies around the UF campus wearing said apparel. If there is anything, anything that can be trashed about young ladies wearing “Daisy Dukes”, please help me understand. Jeans shorts and sun dresses are two of the things that make life worth living. Any human being (male) that takes offense at such a thing is wired funny. When you are on top of the hill you are highly visible and subject to shots from all manner of sachel-assed losers. I take it all as left handed admiration from people with little else to do. Go Gators… Go jorts…..Go sundresses….Go

It's like the "LSU fans smell like corn dogs" thing . . .
. . . or Orson Swindle’s “Arp!” bit about Georgia fans (which I never understood, which I asked him to explain, which he explained, and which I still don’t understand).
It doesn’t have to make sense . . . and, no, there’s no “top of the hill” element to it. We stereotype and insult one another no matter who’s up and who’s down.

Stereotypes and insults
Well then, as long as it’s fair…

The best part
is when you’re at the top of the hill and you’re wearing really short jorts so everyone can see your triumphant junk.

I think it needs to be clarified
That the jorts insult is limited to guys wearing them. Not only is there absolutely nothing wrong wtih a beautiful young female wearing jean shorts, but it should be openly encouraged!

Agreed
We even have different terms for them. They’re “Daisy Dukes” when they’re worn by women and “jorts” when they’re worn by men. No one ever said he saw a girl wearing jorts.

We were making fun of Gators and the jean shorts when I was a student in the 1980s.

The oldest Gator insult I know of is one I've heard ever since I was old enough to understand it...
… Gators eat boogers.

Gator insults
Come on now, try not to let the bitterness consume you. I have a veritable catalog of classic Dawg insults that I have not used once in probably twenty years. I’ve grown that much as a person in two decades. Now, at this stage in my human refinement I have to listen to booger jokes. I hope some turn of events does not cause a tragic regression in my quest for piety. Cause if it does…. you are going to hear why the St. Johns River flows North, why the Dawgs need Astro Turf, etc. As far as the jorts thing goes, I’m inclined to agree that any such article of clothing worn by a male is fair game for a certain amount of derision. One question, just how old did you have to be to understand the the “booger” thing?

"two decades"
Could there be anything other than 20 years of maturation that could possibly have influenced the absence of “classic Dawg insults” from your routine speech? Anything at all happen over the past 20 years, as compared to the previous 20, other than aging? Anything?

factors other than maturation, aging...
Sure, there’s good upbringing, humility, understanding, an exceptionally kind heart

Exactly what part of my statement did you mistake for bitterness?
I said that it was the oldest insult that I remember hearing. I didn’t say I harangued every Gator fan I see on the street with said missive.
I should think that taking time to author multiple post regarding how civilised you are, compared to how childish everyone posting on the blog of one of your rivals is… that seems like a rather passive-aggressive way to transmit bitterness to me.

Passive aggression
Put the sword away. Any reference to my refinement is self-directed sarcasm. I am a college football fan utterly without illusion as to my own lofty position. I was opening myself up for abuse when I posted the part about humility etc. I did not expect to be percieved as the aggressor. Blast away, just don’t mistake the jabs as an intent to harm. It’s all in fun.
