Coming to Your House
Hey guys, I'm a Texas fan who's coming to the Georgia-Kentucky game on November 21. I was just kind of wondering what the low down is; what fight songs I should familiarize myself with, what cheers to know, which players so watch, which players to shield my eyes from (besides Joe Cox), etc. Also, where is the big "gear' store? Any restaurant recommendations?
I'm awfully pumped. Hook 'em Horns and Sic 'em Dawgs.

Focus on # 8 while the Dawgs are on offense and on #35
while they are on defense. If those two aren’t making plays, then nobody is.

Agree..

Wow, so much information is possible to give in answer to such a short set of questions :)
First of all, welcome to Athens! I hope you have a great time, and hear absolutely no booing of the Red and Black at all by classless fans that don’t understand that you never boo your team. (It really is a minority, but it is also my #1 Georgia fan pet peeve.)
The UGA bookstore is the best place to get gear on gameday, though there will be several street vendor-type tables set up around the stadium area, as well. If you’re in town the day before, you can also go to Georgia Square Mall out on the Atlanta highway or George Gibson’s menswear on Baxter Street, and you might get a better price on some Georgia merchandise. None of it is cheap, though! (As a ‘horns fan, I’m sure you can appreciate how severely marked up a shirt gets just because it has a college logo on it.)
Most of the cheers you can pick up as you go along (they’re not super-complicated like… oh, say… a maroon-wearing team 3 hours to the east of Austin). You can’t go wrong by being familiar with this (pregame Redcoat Band medley), and on a kickoff, Georgia fans yell, “Gooooo Dawgs! Sic ’em! Woof Woof Woof…” There’s a nice little webpage here that has a cheers and fight songs section if you want to hear examples of them.
Also, you should definitely partake in the Dawg Walk, which is held 2 hours before kickoff just outside the stadium entrance next to the Tate Student Center. (You’ll find it… it’s where the big crowd is on and under the bridge next to the stadium. It’s also adjacent to the bookstore.)
Enjoy your gameday Saturday in Athens!
Oh, and for the record, Gig ’em Aggies. ;-)

Restaurants, too
There are a lot of good restaurants in Athens… The Grit is one of my favorites. It’s a vegetarian place, and even though I’m not even remotely a vegetarian, I find it incredibly good. Weaver D’s is close to downtown, and is a classic soul food spot. (They were the originators of the phrase “Automatic for the People,” later “borrowed” by REM – with permission.)
Five Guys is right next to the Arch, and is good, even though it’s a chain. The Grill is an Athens landmark, too, though it’s not my favorite place. It’s next to Five Guys.
As far as nice restaurants go, Harry Bissets New Orleans Cafe & Oyster Bar is the best there is downtown, IMO. The Last Resort is also an excellent downtown restaurant.
Bars? Athens has about 4,325,162 bars at last check (approximately). My favorites are The Globe on Lumpkin St. and Trappeze Bar (specializing in Belgian beers) on Washington St.

Bars
I can’t disagree with Vineyard Dawg about Trapeze or The Globe. Another place you might want to check out it Copper Creek on East Washington. They have an in-house brewery and typically have about four of their specialty brews on tap at any given time. If they have their Belgian Red or Kolsch on tap, then you’re in for a treat.

Blind Pig is another bar/restaurant extremely close to the stadium (the closest, actually, if i’m thinking correctly), and has really good food and a cool environment. Oh, and along the lines of Harry Bissets, DePalmas is another excellent restaurant (kind of like a better, local version of Carrabbas).

I'll leave the discussion of who to watch on the team to others
I have no desire to discuss our team right now.

Check out North Campus, which is just south of downtown, for the tailgating
Other than that, Vineyard’s pretty much nailed it. You can’t go two steps w/o finding a decent bar. Check out Allgood, Walker’s, Boar’s Head, or Copper Creek…I always try to hit those spots up when I’m back in town.
Enjoy man. If you guys meet UF in the BCSNCG, I’ll definitely be singing The Eyes of Texas.

Yall should teach him-
“Who’s that walkin’ down the track?”
That was my roommate’s favorite and he would always lead a hoard of Dawg fans in that cheer on the way to the game, in a complete drunken stupor.
He is a judge now…..true story.

A good example...
… of a cheer that you can pick up as you’re listening to it. :-)

Texas fan
Dawgs, your open hearts and charity are touching and embarrassing. This Texas cat is a rascal with ulterior motives. Direct him on a walking tour of Fulton and Cobb Counties, recommend Denny’s and a late night pint down at the railyard. It’s best not for a Texan to sniff around too close to where a Gator has been.
