Georgia Bulldogs v. Kentucky Wildcats Game Day Open Comment Thread
Kentucky Wildcats at Georgia Bulldogs, Nov 21, 2009 7:45 PM EST
Tonight, the Georgia Bulldogs host the Kentucky Wildcats for the season's final game between the hedges. The 'Dawgs have a chance to wrap up a winning record in conference play, capture a second-place finish in the SEC East, and improve their position heading into the postseason with a win in the latest night game in a season seemingly spent under the Saturday night lights in prime time.
If you can't be there in person, feel free to jump in and join in the conversation as the Red and Black try to send the seniors out on a high note in their final outing in Sanford Stadium by winning one for Uga.
Go 'Dawgs!

Any word on possible uniform alterations?
I hope we go with the traditional red-on-red, but I could see the black coming out to honor Uga VII…..

ESPN showed Cox in Red top pregame. But, as we know, pregame uniforms are not neccesarilly indicative of what we wear for the game.

Will come out hot…get a little lazy in the middle to drive us nuts and keep the Cats close, then Washaun and King will take charge on final drive to put the game away.

I know TT will disapprove, but here's the positive I'm taking from this game
I’m just focused on gt at this point and here’s what I see. The defense is what it is, nothing new there. But, I disagree slightly with the general take on Cox. When he isn’t pressured and isn’t forced to make decisions, he’s decent, particularly with the deep ball. tech’s d is pretty damn bad and I can live with another shoot-out. It’s not going to be the game I want, but at least I think, after seeing us tonight, it should be a game.
i see only two ways to beat Tech
1 – never let them on the field – like 8 min drives
2 – a shootout (more likely option you discussed)
problem is we cant out shoot the best long ball team in the nation.
Now – this game is always filled with unknowns and craziness. who knows
We're not that bad against the run
But I don’t know if we can maintain discipline against the offense. Like the AU game (hell…any game for that matter) IF we stop the penalties and are positive on turnovers, we can hang with the bees. These last two weeks, we are seeing signs of this sinking in. But yes, PJ and outcoach CWM.
Run Lindsay Run!
well, we havent seen an option like theirs - but its the passing game they can unleash that scares me
i do think you're channeling your inner Munson here
they have shown that they have a passing game, but it’s not particularly impressive. Nesbitt completes less than 50% of his passes (and averages only 12 a game) and Thomas has caught about 80% of all completions. That simplifies things alot. I don’t like the passing wrinkle to their running game, but the passing isn’t exactly overwhelming.
no, I know
their TOP will make things tougher, particularly if we go 3 & out on any regular basis, but 7 points is 7 points. As long as we can match their scores with our own, it will be a game. Even if they take 8:00+ to score and we take 0:30 for ours.

How come THEY can get guys down to the 15 to make a hit...
…and we never arrive until the returner is around the 20+???
Run Lindsay Run!
exactly
they could bring it out from the corner on the 1 yard line and we’d still give up yards past the 20. where is the coverage?
TV doesn't show it, but I suspect we "seal off" the return around the 25 - 30 yard line
Can you say…“soft zone” kick return coverage?
Run Lindsay Run!
they are running full speed, they cant get down there before the runner is well out
because of the kick.

Time to act like an UGA team
First, run the rollout pass to Charles for the first down. Then turn the game over to Washaun, spelled by King, and tell the damn O line to GATA and drive this ball down the field. It’s Kentucky for Gawd’s sakes.

Whole season in a nutshell. Five fifteen yard penalties, horrible turnovers, no turnovers forced, fifth year seniors making stupid plays, Cox looking in control one play and then comically bad the next.

Once a Dawg, Always a Dawg. How Sweet it is!
Left the game at halftime cause I've been sick and it was getting colder...
I normally hate to leave a game early and not support our guys… But for once I’m glad I did.
I probably would have been ejected if I’d stayed.
But as I watched the 4th quarter unfold at home, a sense of calm came over me. I knew we were going to lose. I knew we’d have a chance to win and INT Boy would blow it. The worst part of this is that nothing about this team surprises me anymore. Staying competitive next we is the only thing that would shock me.
For the love of God please bring on the Aaron Murray era. That’s the only thing that will help me forget this God-forsaken season where every mistake from last year was magnified ten fold and our mascot died.

But I watched Murray break his leg (it was nasty) and I watched him win the FLA state championship. He is definitely the real deal. And unlike Timmy T. he doesn’t have a semi-androgenous, fair skinned “roommate” (that I’m aware of).

I have a National Championship party to plan
or I’d stay longer. Enjoy getting it handed to you next week in ATL…try to improve to at least the Big East level next year…and above all…
Please at least be competitive with Kentucky next year
Im gonna laugh
if Texas gets upset by A&M or for sure when they get the snot knocked out of them by bama or UF. At least UGA fans have some class. But we also end up doing more than pumping gas for a living unlike the people out of Texas
Texas Sucks
Haven’t played a decent team all year. They will get killed in the title game and McCoy will be a bust in the NFL.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

T Kyle talking points...
1. CWM is gone… no reason for UGA fans to lose any sleep over that decision.
2. For those of you who think it can’t get any worse, imagine losing to Auburn as well.
3. Joe Cox is a great guy and a Dawg through and through. It ends there.
4. We truly have no chance of playing the right kind of D with any consistency to do anything more than occasionally slow down GT next week.
5. 7-5 is the absolute best we can hope for.
If there is indication that winning next week is redemption...
I will take that.

Bobo has got to go
3 and outs killed us all night. Run on first, throw deep on second, screen on third, punt. Rinse and repeat. He is terrible.
VDawg
i am not saying another thing about Joe Cox. He is a fine young man and a good Dawg. I actually find more at fault with CMR’s QB managament and Bobos play calling – they are paid and supposedly smart and good. Joe was doing the best he could with his God given talent. I just was never impressed with him as a starter.
In case yall missed the story
a couple years back some arrogant TX fan had some trouble with the locals at a southern oklahoma bar – http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,296466,00.html
I'd just like to say, for no apparent reason at all
I live in TX (don’t worry, I’m leaving in 8 months) and most of the UT fans I know are nothing like this and in fact very supportive of the Dawgs. So, let’s not just all of them by a single person’s actions… lest we for get the AJC boards.
Completely agree
I live outside Tulsa so there’s plenty of UT fans around, most of whom are all around good people.
Normally I probably would’ve just ignored him all together, and probably should have tonight. I’m just exceptionally cranky tonight, not feeling well, still saddened by the loss of UGA VII et al.
Okay...I know that this is Kyle King's job but...I have some shocking info
UGA total offense yards -487
Kentucky offense yards – 265

yeah, the TO suck
Hope it does not happen again next year

lets hope that that was enough to make Curran want to come back
cuz if i was him, that is not how i would want to leave Sanford
Once a Dawg, Always a Dawg. How Sweet it is!
yeah I don't see Rennie leaving this year.....
his size has been & always will be an issue in the Pros…don’t get me wrong I love the guy but he would most likely be a fixture on ST in the NFL….but I do not know his family’s financials, etc….STeamers in the NFL still amke a good living!!
joe
Being a dawg fan and living in florida has been tough the last two years. After tonight I am officialy more exited about Joe Cox being a senior than I am about Tim Tebow being a senior. I have never seen a QB so hot and cold from one minute to the next in my 35 years as a Dawg Fan. I hope Aaron M. comes through for the dawgs next year. And I also hope we see a more diciplined team next season. These penalties are getting old.
it's bad alright
my father in-law is a bull gator. thanksgiving should be a hoot this year. hopefully he’ll make the comments short lived.
I believe that Joe will make a very fine UGA coach in the future
At least he can tell his QBs (if he’s the quarterback coach) not to throw so many damn interceptions

I firmly believe Joe Cox could do Jon Fabris' job better than he can
Then again, so could the next UGA

What?
You think we would bring back a QB and let him coach QBs…I mean look we have an ex RB coaching WRs and an ex WR coaching RBs. We also have 2 retards coaching D and Special teams.
True story Kentucky has better KO/KR units then us. You know why? Because they suck so they have to put out the best players on KO/KR in hopes of making a play. UGA is good, but we refuse to put good players on these teams cause someone might get hurt. Well thats what you recruit for. If you feel that someone getting hurt will cost you that damn much then you better get some good depth going that aint walk-ons. Richt is a bitch and all his assistants are douches.
The bench INSPIRES...
Just got back from the game...
… and I can tell you one thing for sure. Georgia Tech will grind this team up into a fine powder and snort them like an eight-ball.
And speaking of Georgia Tech, this game went exactly the way last year’s Tech game went. What an effing disgrace.
Yeah, it is fitting that Tech's win against us last year and this year
happened to be the years when the state of Georgia is in one of its worst economic recessions since the Great Depression. I want to see how many people have had a bad 2009 year with all the flooding, unemployment, and the UGA losses. You can start with the number one

and for the consolation effect
Comedy Central is showing Foxworthy followed by Ron White – works for me.
sounds like a great idea
I probably should’ve started drinking a couple days ago – would’ve killed all the germs by now.
Thanks for the heads-up
Not much for Foxworthy — him being a Nerd and all — but I and my half bottle of Johnny Walker Black thank you for the Ron White tip.
P.S. What does it say when your two most famous Alums are “the guy with the redneck jokes” and Jimmy Carter.

Man, I don't know how I get baited like this...
… but here I go:
Historical Category:
- Alexander Stevens
- Robert Toombs
- Crawford Long
- D. W. Brooks
Current category:
- Alton Brown
- Sen. Phil Gramm
- Lewis Grizzard
- R.E.M.
- Ryan Seacrest
- Billy Payne
- Robert Benham
- Sen. Saxby Chambliss
- Gov. Sonny Purdue
- Ralph Reed
- Dean Rusk
- Herschel Walker
… and yes, Jeff Foxworthy.
And Jimmy Carter went to the Naval Academy, not UGA.

No No No
You misunderstand. Foxworthy and Carter are notable Tech alums. I was mocking them. Carter went to the Naval Academy and Tech.

Kyle Chandler — the coach on Friday Night Lights.

… and by the alcohol I’ve been using to forget about the profound sucktitude in which we’re currently mired.
by vineyarddawg on Nov 22, 2009 1:15 AM EST up reply actions
think of the alcohol consumption this way
you are disinfecting your body and killing whatever nasty germs & viruses you’ve recently been exposed to.
Had work not interrupted my alcohol consumption, I wouldn’t be sick right now. In fact, I’ve seriously considered drinking in an attempt to get well under the alcohol as a disinfectant theory.
It's Delicious and Good For You!!!
It even fights the dreaded gingivitis!
Podunk, you have a bright future in the alcohol marketing field.

by RedCrake on Nov 22, 2009 1:30 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
you mean the alcohol will cure whatever ails you
concept is new to you??
Alcohol = disinfectant therefore, increasing BAC = decreasing germs. The problem seems to be that apparently you have to maintain the high alcohol percentage for some time in order to get well once ill.
No problem...
I didn’t really make myself clear. I’m just used to throwing that one out at my idiot Nerd in-laws when they bring up Tech’s “rigid academic tradition”. Leave it to the North Avenue Trade School to give America arguably its most inept President while simultaneously giving Northerners an excuse to rag on the redneck stereotype.
I want every college football fan in America to be as miserable as I am.

Neither graduated from Tech,
so I don’t see how that’s an indictment of the academic tradition.
