Georgia Bulldogs v. Kentucky Wildcats Game Day Open Comment Thread

Kentucky Wildcats at Georgia Bulldogs, Nov 21, 2009 7:45 PM EST

Tonight, the Georgia Bulldogs host the Kentucky Wildcats for the season's final game between the hedges. The 'Dawgs have a chance to wrap up a winning record in conference play, capture a second-place finish in the SEC East, and improve their position heading into the postseason with a win in the latest night game in a season seemingly spent under the Saturday night lights in prime time.

If you can't be there in person, feel free to jump in and join in the conversation as the Red and Black try to send the seniors out on a high note in their final outing in Sanford Stadium by winning one for Uga.

Go 'Dawgs!

I hope we go with the traditional red-on-red, but I could see the black coming out to honor Uga VII…..

ESPN showed Cox in Red top pregame. But, as we know, pregame uniforms are not neccesarilly indicative of what we wear for the game.

by podunkdawg on Nov 21, 2009 9:32 PM EST up reply actions

I know TT will disapprove, but here's the positive I'm taking from this game

I’m just focused on gt at this point and here’s what I see. The defense is what it is, nothing new there. But, I disagree slightly with the general take on Cox. When he isn’t pressured and isn’t forced to make decisions, he’s decent, particularly with the deep ball. tech’s d is pretty damn bad and I can live with another shoot-out. It’s not going to be the game I want, but at least I think, after seeing us tonight, it should be a game.

by Sparrow on Nov 21, 2009 9:31 PM EST reply actions

i see only two ways to beat Tech

1 – never let them on the field – like 8 min drives
2 – a shootout (more likely option you discussed)

problem is we cant out shoot the best long ball team in the nation.

Now – this game is always filled with unknowns and craziness. who knows

by tankertoad on Nov 21, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

We're not that bad against the run

But I don’t know if we can maintain discipline against the offense. Like the AU game (hell…any game for that matter) IF we stop the penalties and are positive on turnovers, we can hang with the bees. These last two weeks, we are seeing signs of this sinking in. But yes, PJ and outcoach CWM.

Run Lindsay Run!

by ausdawg85 on Nov 21, 2009 9:39 PM EST up reply actions

i do think you're channeling your inner Munson here

they have shown that they have a passing game, but it’s not particularly impressive. Nesbitt completes less than 50% of his passes (and averages only 12 a game) and Thomas has caught about 80% of all completions. That simplifies things alot. I don’t like the passing wrinkle to their running game, but the passing isn’t exactly overwhelming.

by Sparrow on Nov 21, 2009 9:48 PM EST up reply actions

no, I know

their TOP will make things tougher, particularly if we go 3 & out on any regular basis, but 7 points is 7 points. As long as we can match their scores with our own, it will be a game. Even if they take 8:00+ to score and we take 0:30 for ours.

btw

I’m not saying your wrong about tech having a passing game, I’m just saying their season thus far doesn’t prove up that it’s a HUGE threat. Adding in a legitimate pass option to their already challenging (for us) offense, I don’t like it. But again, I’m not counting on our defense next week.

Left the game at halftime cause I've been sick and it was getting colder...

I normally hate to leave a game early and not support our guys… But for once I’m glad I did.

I probably would have been ejected if I’d stayed.

But as I watched the 4th quarter unfold at home, a sense of calm came over me. I knew we were going to lose. I knew we’d have a chance to win and INT Boy would blow it. The worst part of this is that nothing about this team surprises me anymore. Staying competitive next we is the only thing that would shock me.

For the love of God please bring on the Aaron Murray era. That’s the only thing that will help me forget this God-forsaken season where every mistake from last year was magnified ten fold and our mascot died.

his size has been & always will be an issue in the Pros…don’t get me wrong I love the guy but he would most likely be a fixture on ST in the NFL….but I do not know his family’s financials, etc….STeamers in the NFL still amke a good living!!

joe

Being a dawg fan and living in florida has been tough the last two years. After tonight I am officialy more exited about Joe Cox being a senior than I am about Tim Tebow being a senior. I have never seen a QB so hot and cold from one minute to the next in my 35 years as a Dawg Fan. I hope Aaron M. comes through for the dawgs next year. And I also hope we see a more diciplined team next season. These penalties are getting old.

From a Dawg Fan firmly entrenched in

the heart of Gator Country, I feel your pain.

it's bad alright

my father in-law is a bull gator. thanksgiving should be a hoot this year. hopefully he’ll make the comments short lived.

I believe that Joe will make a very fine UGA coach in the future

At least he can tell his QBs (if he’s the quarterback coach) not to throw so many damn interceptions

I firmly believe Joe Cox could do Jon Fabris' job better than he can

Then again, so could the next UGA

What?

You think we would bring back a QB and let him coach QBs…I mean look we have an ex RB coaching WRs and an ex WR coaching RBs. We also have 2 retards coaching D and Special teams.

True story Kentucky has better KO/KR units then us. You know why? Because they suck so they have to put out the best players on KO/KR in hopes of making a play. UGA is good, but we refuse to put good players on these teams cause someone might get hurt. Well thats what you recruit for. If you feel that someone getting hurt will cost you that damn much then you better get some good depth going that aint walk-ons. Richt is a bitch and all his assistants are douches.

The bench INSPIRES...

Just got back from the game...

… and I can tell you one thing for sure. Georgia Tech will grind this team up into a fine powder and snort them like an eight-ball.

And speaking of Georgia Tech, this game went exactly the way last year’s Tech game went. What an effing disgrace.

by vineyarddawg on Nov 22, 2009 12:10 AM EST reply actions

Yeah, it is fitting that Tech's win against us last year and this year

happened to be the years when the state of Georgia is in one of its worst economic recessions since the Great Depression. I want to see how many people have had a bad 2009 year with all the flooding, unemployment, and the UGA losses. You can start with the number one

and for the consolation effect

Comedy Central is showing Foxworthy followed by Ron White – works for me.

by podunkdawg on Nov 22, 2009 12:12 AM EST reply actions

I think I will have a drinkin contest with Ron White tonight.

by dawgfan73 on Nov 22, 2009 12:15 AM EST up reply actions

sounds like a great idea

I probably should’ve started drinking a couple days ago – would’ve killed all the germs by now.

by podunkdawg on Nov 22, 2009 12:16 AM EST up reply actions

Thanks for the heads-up

Not much for Foxworthy — him being a Nerd and all — but I and my half bottle of Johnny Walker Black thank you for the Ron White tip.

P.S. What does it say when your two most famous Alums are “the guy with the redneck jokes” and Jimmy Carter.

I prefer Ron White also

but i’ll take foxworthy to tide me over….35 min to ron white

Man, I don't know how I get baited like this...

… but here I go:

Historical Category:
- Alexander Stevens
- Robert Toombs
- Crawford Long
- D. W. Brooks

Current category:
- Alton Brown
- Sen. Phil Gramm
- Lewis Grizzard
- R.E.M.
- Ryan Seacrest
- Billy Payne
- Robert Benham
- Sen. Saxby Chambliss
- Gov. Sonny Purdue
- Ralph Reed
- Dean Rusk
- Herschel Walker

… and yes, Jeff Foxworthy.

And Jimmy Carter went to the Naval Academy, not UGA.

by vineyarddawg on Nov 22, 2009 12:37 AM EST up reply actions

No No No

You misunderstand. Foxworthy and Carter are notable Tech alums. I was mocking them. Carter went to the Naval Academy and Tech.

But my favorite currently notable UGA alum?

Kyle Chandler — the coach on Friday Night Lights.

I love that show … Curse NBC’s exclusive deal with Direct TV

Oh, sorry... my bad.

I guess I’ve got a little bit of a thin skin tonight… and my mind isn’t exactly working at 100%.

Sorry about that.

merely confusion created

by the suckfest that is this season

by podunkdawg on Nov 22, 2009 1:13 AM EST up reply actions

… and by the alcohol I’ve been using to forget about the profound sucktitude in which we’re currently mired.

by vineyarddawg on Nov 22, 2009 1:15 AM EST up reply actions

think of the alcohol consumption this way

you are disinfecting your body and killing whatever nasty germs & viruses you’ve recently been exposed to.

Had work not interrupted my alcohol consumption, I wouldn’t be sick right now. In fact, I’ve seriously considered drinking in an attempt to get well under the alcohol as a disinfectant theory.

by podunkdawg on Nov 22, 2009 1:23 AM EST up reply actions

It's Delicious and Good For You!!!

It even fights the dreaded gingivitis!

Podunk, you have a bright future in the alcohol marketing field.

by RedCrake on Nov 22, 2009 1:30 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

you mean the alcohol will cure whatever ails you

concept is new to you??

Alcohol = disinfectant therefore, increasing BAC = decreasing germs. The problem seems to be that apparently you have to maintain the high alcohol percentage for some time in order to get well once ill.

by podunkdawg on Nov 22, 2009 2:07 AM EST up reply actions

No problem...

I didn’t really make myself clear. I’m just used to throwing that one out at my idiot Nerd in-laws when they bring up Tech’s “rigid academic tradition”. Leave it to the North Avenue Trade School to give America arguably its most inept President while simultaneously giving Northerners an excuse to rag on the redneck stereotype.

I want every college football fan in America to be as miserable as I am.

by RedCrake on Nov 22, 2009 1:18 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Neither graduated from Tech,

so I don’t see how that’s an indictment of the academic tradition.
