Cox to start against Tennessee Tech

FML.
Someone's gonna have to explain to me what sense it makes to trot out a 5th year senior QB that plays like a freshman with a deteriorating shoulder muscle who has thrown almost as many picks as TD's against FCS competition? How does this, as Richt puts it, "give us the best chance to win the game"?
Hell, we have an actual freshman with a good arm and as many picks as TD's (ZERO!). On top of which, if you need a QB to help you win against Tennessee Tech you have bigger problems.
I am and will continue to be a big Mark Richt supporter/apologist, but this makes no sense. This shows me that as of right now, Richt doesn't get it.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Richt/Cox is the new Donnan/Carter.

Cox starting...
I totally agree with you-he should not start. If Richt doesnt make wholesale changes, he needs to go too.
I mean seriously-the definition of insanity is: repeating the same action expecting a different result…I say “start the freshman!”
The most logical conclusion I can draw...
… is that Gray is so much worse than Cox that that coaching staff doesn’t have the confidence in him to give him the ball. That’s the only explanation. So, basically, Gray will never be starting at Georgia, since he’s presumably worse than Cox, but also presumably worse than Murray and/or Mettenberger, who only aren’t playing because they’re being redshirted.
And unless they’re willing to start Murray or Mettenberger this week and give one of them at least 70% of the snaps in all 4 remaining games no matter how badly they screw up, then they can’t justify taking the redshirt off, either. And since none of us have seen Murray or Mettenberger in practice, none of us knows how ready either one would be to take the field today.
True . . .
. . . but we know this: Joe Cox will not be the Georgia Bulldogs’ starting quarterback in 2010.
That means either we get next year’s starter some meaningful snaps in 2009 or we’re accepting the idea that we’re going to have to go through this all over again in 2010.
Burn the redshirt year. Redshirting Knowshon Moreno didn’t get us a dadgum thing. I’d rather go 1-3 down the stretch of what already is a lost season and get the new starter the reps that will enable him to lead us to victory next year than go 2-2 down the stretch with Joe Cox, make it to a meaningless bowl game, and be right back where we started next fall.
Go 'Dawgs!
I actually agree.
I have no idea why the coaching staff is not taking the redshirt off Murray, who by all accounts is the better of the incoming freshmen QB’s. We know he was injured, which would slow his on-field work, but he was also in Athens for spring practice and summer workouts, so it’s not like he was new to the party in August. If he’s not familiar with a significant portion of the playbook after 10 months on campus, then that’s a whole ’nother problem.
I’m not a coach, so I can’t say why Murray isn’t already ahead of Gray in the pecking order. At a minimum, though, I would say that he should be. I would strongly consider starting him, too. The kid’s gotta get experience one way or another.
Murray will play Saturday
Mark Richt, I have concerns about his intelligence, but really, he has got to see the logic in playing Murray the rest of the season. Right? Right?
I mean, it literally makes no sense to play a terrible, 5th year QB the rest of the year. Why not let a terrible freshman get his mistakes out of the way, so that he is not a terrible freshman again next year when our offense should be LOADED.
CMR will see the light by Saturday and play Murray. As terribly as we have been coached this year, and make no mistake, we have seen a team that would make Jim Donnan and Ray Goff shudder, Mark Richt has got to be smarter than what he has shown so far.
THE COXERCEPTION
FLASH!
The SEC has made a last minute change in the rulebook. This is to take into consideration a new play or rather BUMBLE called the Coxerception. It has the same effect as an interception but it makes you feel even more sorry for the one throwing the errant pass. It goes something like this: QB takes snap in shotgun gets down in crouch as low as possible, throws a rope into the hands of onrushing lineman on defensive back, ball is tipped, possession changes, other team scores, but you can’t help loving the red headed kid with the great grin. Repeat above until next QB with less experience takes a turn. Another Coxerception, other team gets ball, QB drops back 20 yard looking for lost contact lens, Martinez signals prevent defense, QB finds contact lens, runs for TD. Play is reviewed, Georgia fans penalized for excessive irritation, Martinez gets extension on contract for helping find contact lens.
Oh well , Maybe next year!
as i have said this year and still say
I absolutely have no idea what is going on in the football program this year. The black hats sealed it. dont try and explain it – it cant be done.
BTW – Jim Rome LIT THE HECK UP UGA for the uniforms today on the radio. He went seriously to town, And he was right.
