Uga VII has passed.  Do we get an Otto II to bide time until VIII next season?  As young as he was (hadn't finished a second season), this can't have been "natural causes".  More information will likely be released tomorrow considering the time.  This is certainly a sad day for the Georgians, and dog lovers.

May the big Dawg rest in peace.

oh wow, thanks for that update

I own a bulldog and I can tell you, natural causes is very likely. The Uga line gets some of the best care imaginable, and even still, they are just as subject to a short life as any other bulldog. 8 years is considered a long life. Considering this is the 7 Uga, it isnt improbable one would have had a very short life.

Thats very sad though regardless. He was a big happy dawg.

"natural causes" means old age stuff to me tanker...

and while I understand the health problems of the breed, considering the length of the career on the sidelines for the last several, it’s certainly “premature”.

I would say it is unfortunately premature and it stinks, but not uncommon at all. This is one of the reasons for the push in bulldogs to stop the overbreeding. There is no way to know with a bulldog at birth, even given perfect health and care, if they will live 1 year or 10. Thats just how it is.

According to the AJC,

UGA VII died of an apparent heart attack.

It sounds silly to say this, but I feel like I feel.

When I heard Jeff Dantzler announce this on the radio in Athens, I felt like I had just been told that a close family member had died suddenly. I almost teared up… and I’m certain that I will on Saturday.

Saturday will certainly have something special

wonder if we’d wear all black? I wouldn’t like it, but we obviously have the jerseys, pants, and helmets to pull it off.

Oh - Mr Sanchez

I know what you are saying, and if the fans do, great. But I am certain Uga VII would be happy with red jerseys and silver britches. Lets please not revist black uniforms again for about 20 years.

Wow

I understand your sentiment, and I certainly appreciate it. And I don’t want to cause offense, but that is probably one of the worst memorialization ideas I have ever heard.

The black shirt/pant/helmet/socks/mouthpieces/jock straps should stay on the shelf where they belong.

However, black is the typical color for those in mourning

I can see how under the circumstances it might be appropriate.

thanks podunk...

wasn’t saying we should, or would, and i don’t think it’d look good. just saying we obviously have the apparel should we want to do use it.

Still, we looked like knock off Grambling vs. Florida, so I certainly hope not.

well Vine, it made me look at my bulldog and cry

its so common for bulldogs to die unexpectedly of heart failure it kills me when i look at Mr Cotton and think about it. Same for all Ugas. At the Ga – Auburn Flyby I did i got my picture with Uga V and that was a great day for me.

As is the common refrain

Damn Good Dawg…

Hug your dog tonight, people.

The passing of UGA

It is sad but true that the lifespan of an English Bulldog, excuse me, Bulldawg is usually short in comparison to most breeds. Their cardiovascular system is notoriously weak which leads to an average lifespan of around eight years. Consider a mixed breed of English bull and American Pit Bull Terrier. I know the idea of a bastard slipping into royal lineage is distasteful but sometimes it takes one to add fire to the bloodline.
I’m genuinely sorry for your loss. Heads up, there will be brighter days.

Only the good die young. The team should definitely do something special on Saturday.

Coming from a Tech fan. .

I’m sorry to hear that UGA VII has passed. It’s hard to see any dog pass on, much less one that everyone loved so much. I hope ya’ll find a replacement (I hate to call it that) in time for the game against us. Good luck at the game by the way. Hope it’s a good one.

RIP UGA VII

Do you mean the fact that, technically . . .

. . . it’s half-staff and not half-mast, since we’re on a continent rather than a ship?

Go 'Dawgs!

no

half-staff or half-mast, I assume he isnt being serious but over dramtic on purpose… in that case, I understand.

Yeah, I was kidding

I mean, it is half-staff, not half-mast, but, yeah, I’m pretty sure he was using hyperbole in the service of a point rather than actually suggesting lowering the flags on state buildings.

Of course, lowering the flags in Sanford Stadium tonight would be entirely appropriate.

I understand where your coming from, and I dont want to start a huge arguement, I just dont think it would be respectful to display a flag a half-staff/half-mast for a dog. Even if its at Sanford staduim. I dont want to get into it with you, I am not trolling.

Just another reason to win the game tonight.....

Let’s win this one for Uga VII, and of course, our Seniors!

Go Dawgs!
