Put me down for not willing to accept

that the current talent level is up to par.  I can't see anyone starting right now for Georgia on offense that could start for anyone else in the SEC other than AJ Green.    And Evans at safety, he couldn't play for Vandy.  Truth is that Donnan could outrecruit Richt 10 times over.  I once worried about Garner leaving, but I don't believe it could get any worse.   I don't expect to win SEC championships every year nor even every two years, but I do expect a talented, well coached, well disciplined group on the field wearing RED, not black.  I plan to go to homecoming next weekend, but that's it.  I'm done after 53 years of going to Athens to back the Dogs.  You younger guys pull them through.  Aloha.

It’s hard right now. Kind of like having children! Give yourself a little break. Once a Dawg, always a Dawg. How sweet it is a lot of the time!

Juj.....

it’s kind of like golf (if you play that is)…you know it’s golf, you never go to the practice range, you only play 2-3 times a month, but every time you step on the 1st tee- you visualize hitting down the middle of the fairway-only to chili-dip to the ladies tee box. But on the 18th hole you par-to drive you to want to play again!! And if that analogy doesn’t work for a salty dawg like you from Cordele just keep in mind that it could be worse…..you could’ve grown up in Ohio!

Didn't say I was giving up on supporting the Dawgs. Just like bullydawgy says

“once a Dawg, always a Dawg.” I just said I wasn’t going back to Athens again after HC game this week. Too much trouble getting a decent parking space__can’t park on sidewalks or tailgate close by without giving megabucks. Bitch at you about drinking beer, etc. I will continue to go to away games and to Jacksonville. Getting to games away is, for the most part, more “user friendly” and more conducive to tailgating than going to Athens. By the way, not really from Cordele, originally from Wah-wick, on the shores of the murky Lake Blackshear. I still haven’t had anyone point out a person who starts for Georgia on offense (other than AJ) who could start for another SEC team other than Vandy.

Yeah

Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno were total busts. Richt really can’t recruit worth crap.

Leaving insightful football commentary and analysis to other people since 2006.

Juj....bringing back the memories...

my papaw used to say that phrase all the time-“every now & then a blind hog will find an acorn”!!
Now on to your original statement: I would go with Ben Jones and of course Drew Butler!
I totally agree with you on Evans, everytime I see him on the field I cringe! I sometimes wonder how in the hell does CWM allows that guy to run onto the field?? Then I have to take a step back and wonder how in the hell does CMR allow CWM to call the defensive signals?? Has anyone been keeping up with Miami- do we have a chance of trading Willie for Sebastian the Ibis (cartoon mascot)???

O.K., I'll give you Jones, but Butler would not qualify as

an offensive player in my book. I was referring to the normal “11”, but Butler could play for anybody.

We recruited the same players as most every .........

other school and signed a bunch of them – now we are to believe we got snookered and signed only the duds! I think not – they have been coached down or at the very least stayed the same.

Maybe, just maybe, they were overrated by the recruiting

gurus. Anybody from Tifton would have told you that Troupe wouldn’t catch a pass across the middle in high school. You ain’t gonna coach that out of anybody when they get to the SEC.

Here's one for you.....

what about Greg Reid- we put “full court” pressure on this guy and lost him to FSU. He’s made some good plays (I would say “but it’s the ACC” but at this moment I’m not sure we could shut down Duke (even though an old crafty S-E-C coach is at the reigns)) but they are up & down and have been in the same downward spiral as us (except they actually beat a #7 team in BYU-overrated or not). What’s your take-coaching or overrated player??
As to Butler-I was being a little facetious but if Drew is as athletic as his father, and I would say he is, he could probably challenge some of the starters. In ‘84/85 I attended football camp with another kicker-John Kasay (a couple of years older than I). And I’m here to tell you that Kevin Butler showed up (along with Mr. MMA Herschel) and stole the show throwing & kicking the ball all around! And in the end Kasay (Butler’s protege) defeated our team in the “P-nut” bowl in Sanford Stadium by about 3 TDs.

Florida was hot on Reid’s trail too, so it’s probably fair to say he isn’t chopped liver, and he’s been a rare bright spot for a terrible defence in Tally. The fact that early playing time was a big factor in his decision (at least that’s what he told the Gators) suggests two possibilities – either UGA has (or is perceived to have) quality players in the secondary, or UGA’s coaches have a reputation for valuing seniority over talent. An UGA fan can undoubtedly make a better judgement there than I can.

by peachy rex on Nov 3, 2009 5:44 AM EST up reply actions

There's one thing for sure__NO ONE can guarantee the upcoming

recruits more immediate playing time than UGA, except at the punter and AJ’s position! Problem is that the opposing coaches will point to this year as demonstrating that NO 1ST YEAR GUY who goes to UGA will get significant playing time even if the season is down the toilet!
