On a lighter note, this is the first "Google Suggestion" when searching for Brandon Spikes.

this post led me to research around some
It was interesting to see some of Florida fans responses. One standard response was “he was going for the football”. Which is ludicrous. The other is “Dont think you havent done it before to UGA, its FOOTBALL.” Of course, thats silly two: two wrongs dont make a right and i found no examples of a UGA player eye gouging a running back. Oddly, it was hard to find florda fans that just said it was wrong and he should be penalized for it.
i thought there would be someone somewhere that said it at least, it wasnt cool
i looked through the papers and blogs and just couldnt find it – and gave up after finding all kinds of things that were sickening, like what Vineyarddawg posted.
I agree... that's not odd.
When judged as a group, Florida fans are the most tasteless and classless in the SEC. And that’s saying something, considering that Alabama and Auburn are in that comparison set.
I hate Florida.
People's Exhibit #1
No less than SB Nation’s own Alligator Army writes the following (emphasis mine):
In a dark arts kind of way, Spikes going for the eye gouge is hilarious. (When I first saw the video, I thought he was going for a strip. I am a huge homer.) He might get suspended, since college players can’t just pay a $10,000 fine and move on. But, if you had to pick out a guy to commit a dirty act at the bottom of the pile, how far do you go before you get to Spikes? Isn’t he the first pick? I mentioned on Saturday that he brings an extra level of aggressiveness, and that has a dark side too. That Spikes would try to do something in a rivalry game and retaliate is almost acceptable, until the possibility of the whole “blinding a guy” thing is considered.
Yeah, you know, I’m a big homer, so I probably would think it was hilarious (in a “dark” way) if Rennie Curran were to attempt to permanently maim an opposing player just because he was jakked up during a game. It’s really understandable, and even somewhat justifiable, you know, until I realized that the other guy might be permanently maimed. Then I might have second thoughts about it.
(Actually, this analogy doesn’t work. If Rennie Curran had done what Brandon Spikes did, he would have been immediately ejected from the game and probably suspended for the rest of his career by the NCAA before the game was over.)
I hate Florida.
Vineyarddawg, you rule the web once again
this was exactly the kind of stuff i was finding. I hope T Kyle see this post. To think Alligator Army would think that act is hilarious. Thats sick. We here at dawg sports were willing to suspend a starter over a drivers license issue. ON the other side of the border, they think putting a guys eye out is funny.
I seriously want to see a public denouncement of this by CMR followed by a petition (or whatever it is in the SEC). I want to see CMR man the f up for his team and be a leader and not hide anymore. His mentor Bowden sure would have had somethign to say and do about it.
