Heading to Knoxville this weekend

I know that it has been a long time since I have contributed in any way to this community (besides my visits), but I have a question for anyone who has been to Knoxville for a game.   Where are the best places for Bulldog fans to go in a town like this?  Where are the good local eats?  I have almost been to all the SEC venues and I'm excited to go to the biggest (if not the most ugly) one of them all!  I'm bringing my fiancee with me, so I naturally want it to be as safe as possible.  Thanks to all who respond to this!

GO DAWGS!!!

Suggestion

I went up to Knoxville last season to see the Gators play. We hung out at a bar/restaurant called “Calhouns on the River.” It is a very large bar that has excellent ribs, wings, burgers, etc. and plenty of beer tubs. We went there Friday night and it was like Gator Central. I am not sure if it always caters to the visiting team or if it was just for that game.

It is located right on the Tennessee River next to where the “Vol Navy” docks, so it was perfectly located. We were told Friday that they offered gameday parking so we returned early Saturday to secure a space in the lot. I believe the lot filled up around 8:45-9:00am for the 3:30 kickoff, but it was the perfect place. The scene is beautiful right on the river and there is plenty of tailgating action in the lot. Some guys parked next to us had the pimped out tailgate trailer with 2 built in flat screens (1 for Gameday and 1 for Playstation – funny). If you don’t have the ability to bring your own tailgate, there is food & drink right there (they set up burger stands outside). It is also just a short walk to the stadium.

Your fiancee will like it too as it is extremely safe (and has bathroom access although the lines can be ridiculous) and she’ll like checking out the Vol Navy (it really is a cool tradition even if it is at UT).

Have fun and keep Kiffin winless in the conference!!

You're not going to be in danger in Knoxville

unless you’re taking a lovely moonlit stroll through an interstate overpass with your intended. Calhoun’s is an excellent choice, although it’ll be mobbed all Saturday. If you’re staying through Sunday, try Sunspot on the strip for brunch. Enjoy!

Oh, I really didn’t believe that we would be in any real mortal danger (Just the typical opposing fanbase-in-enemy-territory danger, though I’ll have to change my itinerary for Saturday evening if I am consider your advice!).

We are actually only staying Saturday, so is there anywhere else besides Calhoun’s that is worth a visit?

The only good thing to do in Knox-vegas...

… is to turn around and drive back home. I’ve been there once for a game, and do not intend upon ever returning.

I’m coming up from good old Athenstown, so it should be an early wake up on Saturday. I just hope the game is not a run up and down the field sort of affair, cause then I have no idea how I’ll have the strength to get out of there.

Give Calhouns a try

Of course it will be packed – but it’s a prime location close to the stadium with great views and lots of tailgating support. There are also decks right across the street that you can park in – which might be a good option if the forecast is anything similar to Atlanta’s for tomorrow!!

The way I look at it, if it’s in a college town and ISN’T mobbed on gameday, I don’t want to go there!!!
