Arkansas V. Ole Miss - The upset that isn't an upset

I'm predicting your prediction before you post it. Last year, a hot Ole Miss team beat a shaky LSU team in an upset that wasn't really an upset because everyone saw it coming. This year, Ole Miss is about to be on the receiving end of that phenomenon. Ole Miss was in the Top 5 just a few weeks ago, whether they ever deserved it or not. That means that despite all the evidence that would suggest otherwise the Rebels will probably be favored to beat the Hogs in Oxford. (The Rebels are ranked higher, if you count getting more "Others Receiving Votes" votes as being ranked higher.) But we've all been watching the SEC and we all know better. So no, it's not an upset if everyone sees it coming, and you'd have to have been paying no attention all season not to see an Arkansas win coming from a mile away.

I disagree

I’m going with the Rebels here. People are too high on Ar kansas because they played the Gators tough…. when in reality the Gators have a lot of problems on offense and it was just a game they played like balls in. It happens.

We beat Ar kansas and I don’t think we’re that great.

I think the Rebs pull this one out on the strength of their defense alone.

Jevan Snead is a mystery, though.

Just watched that game. Jevan Snead looked good, imo.

The Rebels' win today proves two things . . .

. . . neither of which required further proof:

1. Our football team sucks.

2. My prognosticating skills suck.

Extrapolating from the first two premises, I arrive at a third conclusion, which I take to be self-evident:

3. Everything sucks.

That is all.

Thanks, vineyarddawg

Notre Dame won.

Tennessee hung tough with Alabama to claim the most uplifting moral victory since Tennessee hung tough with Florida.

Georgia Tech won and Miami lost, which I think gives Georgia Tech the lead in the Atlantic and/or Coastal Division with no meaningful conference games left to play.

Suddenly everything does, in fact, suck.

Indeed

Looks like Tech will win the Division of Northern Virginia and will go on to play whomever wins the Division of the Potomac. One thing is locked in stone, though… at least one participant in the ACC Championship Game will have 3 or more losses. (Clemson and BC are tied for the lead of the [whatever] division, and each currently have 3 losses.) At this point, the league’s best hope is that the Golden Tornado go undefeated the rest of the season, since they’re the only team left with just one loss.

Now there’s a league that sucks has a lot of “parity.” I mean, check out the standings… not pretty.

If one were inclined to look at the bright side . . .

. . . the fact that Georgia Tech will have a conference championship game to play the Saturday after facing Georgia could provide the Yellow Jackets with an unfamiliar distraction and cause them to be less focused on the Bulldogs.

Of course, that’s complete crap, since no man, woman, or child affiliated with Georgia Tech has ever, under any circumstances, thought any game mattered more than the Georgia game, so I wouldn’t believe that garbage even if I were inclined to look on the bright side, which, of course, I am not.

Assuming that at least one thing doesn't suck...

we have the chance to play spoiler to the Techies. Because they have no real games between now and the ACC “championship,” we will be able to hand them that second and really embarrassing loss that assures that they limp into that game. Getting a BCS bowl for winning the ACC is like social promotion, and we might be uniquely positioned to remind them of that fact.

But it won’t happen, because everything sucks.

You know what doesn't suck?

Being wrong. Being wrong is great. Being wrong about that game was pretty awesome, actually.

So let me be the first to say that I’m still not buying the Rebels. I believe next week Auburn will be able to get out of the funk they’ve been in the last few weeks and really turn it on against Ole Miss. No way the Rebels will win that one.

Maybe, just maybe, I’m wrong again.
