Georgia Bulldogs at Vanderbilt Commodores, Oct 17, 2009 12:21 PM EDT

Game day is upon us! You know (and are encouraged to finish) the drill . . . your thoughts, reflections, gripes, exhortations, incredulous questions, and (with any luck) joyous exclamations go in the comments below.

First snap. Last snap. Every snap.

I hope it's Willie Martinez

(Relax; I only hope vineyarddawg throws Coach Martinez out of a first-story window. All right, maybe a second-story window . . . with an unsuspecting Tim Tebow standing right below.)

Go 'Dawgs!

I am legitimately terrified about today's game

… And its against Vanderbilt.

Just saying that make me throw up in my mouth.a little.

Is anyone else watching the pregame on channel 17?

Did Andre Ware really just say “the King brothers” when referring to Caleb King and Tavarres King?

/facepalm

I wish...

they would quit showing that stat about Cox being 31-0 in High School….he is 3-3 as a starter in college and that is all that matters.

by RocketDawg on Oct 17, 2009 12:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

4-3 in college

Technically, he did start the Ole Miss game in 2006, though he didn’t finish it.

True.

Not sure how a receiver could step up on a pass that is supposed to be more of a timing issue than anything

by dawgblogit on Oct 17, 2009 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

that is the hardest place to catch a ball on a post, trust me

if it is low and behind its almost better, but high, your pads constrict you, you cant see,and your upper and lower torso are going the opposite ways. It was a bad pass. If its in front of the rcvr, he can run too it, stretch out, dive. but high and behind on a post sucks.

I was hoping Richt was going to punch the mascot.

I still stand by my 63-3 17-3 prediction.

right on track

bad offense, a PI on defense, an INT off an obvious fly pattern. just need some crazy PFs and we have hit all the swtiches.

by tankertoad on Oct 17, 2009 12:33 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

If Cox throws that to the back hip, it's a catch

Can’t blame Bobo for getting a 1 on 1 on with Orson Charles, that’s all on Cox

by NOLADawg on Oct 17, 2009 12:33 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Depends

It looked like OC wasn’t as fast as the defender… that ball was thrown probably expecting Orson to outrun that guy or at least be right there with him…

by dawgblogit on Oct 17, 2009 12:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

we need to run the ball against a bad run defense and get some play action

Cox needs rythm and none of these calls are helping either case. If Stafford is in, roger, I get what you are saying, but we already have two dropped balls and almost and INT before throwing that pass, Cox isnt warmed up or in rythym, so get some runs going and some easy passes.

The only chance we have...

to not get embarrassed against Florida is for this staff to think WAY out of the box and break all of our obvious tendencies. Pull a Spurrier vs. FSU in 1997, alternate QB’s every play, run the option out of the I with Gray, do something crazy…..otherwise Corch Irwin is going try to score triple digits on us.

How do we rate our own QBs? They play against the Heisman Defining secondary that everyone else does…

If we can make Garcia and Crompton look good.. just how good does our own QBs look?

Run blocking is basic for a lineman…..hit the guy in front of you and move him out of the way. If we can’t trap or pull then just go to a zone blocking scheme and let the backs run.

First half thoughts:

Vandy is a bad team and as well as Joe has thrown at times we’ll never know if we can run the ball if we don’t run the ball. We tokenly run the ball. This has been the idea since Okie State.

Whatever happened to running between the tackles? Huh, anyone? anyone?

by DavetheDawg on Oct 17, 2009 2:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree with most of this...

Vandy is a terrible team. After a few years of mediocrity they have sunk back to total suckatude as a team ( the Vandy we all know and love).

That being said the D line and Defense as a whole are playing better. They seem to be playing faster. I have no problem with mistakes if a player is going all out when he makes it.

Running the ball still sucks our Oline still sucks. AJ is awesome!

Regarding the leaping penalty...

I think the rule states you can’t run forward and then leap. This causes risk to down linemen.

You can stand in place and leap, though…like A.J. did against ASU. He basically just Leaped flatfooted. Could be wrong on this, though.

sick qb, you give him deep routes?? You should be slicing up the flats on that!! Short passes that keep the O moving and keep him from having to rely on having to run around / be accurate at a distance.

He is decent but vanilla

His QB Development skills are POOR to NONE. Fire him as the QB Coach and give him 1 more year for OC

by dawgblogit on Oct 17, 2009 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, because the . . .

3 UGA qb’s who played in the NFL who learned from him must have been just that good coming out of high school. While I may disagree with Bobo’s playcalling, the fact that David Greene spent 3 years on an NFL roster, D.J. Shockley is still rocking along in the league, and Matt Stafford was hailed by NFL personnel guys as having an incredibly high football IQ all indicate that Bobo is a pretty good developer of talent.

AJ Green

94 Yards in first half off 3 receptions. 0 in second ?? WTH?

by dawgblogit on Oct 17, 2009 3:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i dont think TKyle has ever picked against UGA - but I dont see how you can

say UF isnt going to slaughter the dawgs barring some earth shattering miracle.

by tankertoad on Oct 17, 2009 3:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

We are going to own them... what are you saying??

This is all Willie’s big gamble. He always picks ONE game to prep for all year. This year. FLORIDA. It will be an upset!!

by dawgblogit on Oct 17, 2009 3:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You may not be far off

We have nothing to lose so why not come out and play crazy and loose. Everyone expects a blowout so if we lose by 50 we lose by 50.

I will take UGA over UF

in my weekly college pick ‘em that doesn’t involve points or money.

by podunkdawg on Oct 17, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I tried to pick against Georgia for the Oklahoma State game . . .

. . . but then I put it to a vote and everyone wanted me to be upbeat.

You see where that got us, don’t you?

Go 'Dawgs!

by T Kyle King on Oct 19, 2009 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I always take UGA

it’s rule #1 in my personal multi-tiered system for college football pick ‘em. Since the game I play is free and I don’t have to worry about points, I can take UGA all year every game. Besides, to do otherwise would hurt too much

by podunkdawg on Oct 20, 2009 10:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

See, this is why I hate this game every year.

Even if we do good things like a huge punt return, or a great defensive stand, I can’t stop thinking, “Well, it’s only Vandy.”

by vineyarddawg on Oct 17, 2009 3:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

1st and 10 and throw deep fade to AJ

seems Vandy figured it out now too

by tankertoad on Oct 17, 2009 3:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

RB Situation

I have been saying the entire time its not the Running Backs its the Blocking…

The only exception is the running backs not looking to bust out of the play… i.e. there were a few cuts that could have been made that didn’t follow the play that probably would have busted out for a lot more yards…

But other than that… it is BLOCKING that is killing our running game!!

by dawgblogit on Oct 17, 2009 3:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Excellent point

but is it blocking or blocking schemes being called by Bobo? Vandy was giving up 170 yds per game.

Bobo on the sidelines, trying to save his job!!

i.e. he was looking back to see where he needed to push the guy??

I think AJ has shown alot of progression as a Player

Last year he was just using his skills now he is using both his head and his heart!

UF

I posted early, but Richt and staff are going to have to coach WAY out of the box to not get blown out by UF. Need to review tapes from 1997 UF FSU and 03 OSU Miami

by UgaMatt on Oct 17, 2009 3:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i have never that I remember been more terribly afraid and also fairly certain that

UF was just going to absolutely dismantle us. Even in tough years, I could rationalize something. But I cant this year. We cant run or stop the run and I just see Tebow all over the field the whole game. Its a sickening feeling. and i am really tired of this UF run against UGA the least few decades.

by tankertoad on Oct 17, 2009 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ummm, not so much

While Tebow is a very good QB he is the ONLY offensive weapon FL has. Their WR’s don’t scare anyone, or haven’t to this point anyway. Their RB’s aren’t anything to get excited about. It’s a tough job, but if the GA defense can prevent Tebow from controlling the game they might just be able to pull off the upset, well, not get blown out anyway.

The defense will have to win the game as the offense has been to inconstant to carry the team.

Ok, here I go finding the silver lining.

This one was is ugly, but this is also the team that hung in against LSU on the road, and usually plays us pretty tough. So, it’s of note that we won by more than 2 scores, even if it doesn’t make you feel all warm and fuzzy (unlike podunkdawg’s brownies).

It could happen

It’s not as if Georgia hasn’t beaten Tech in games they shouldn’t have (as recently as 2006, even).

I don’t you’ll hear as much crying as we’ve been hearing all season, though. We like our coach, and we’ll get over it. If it happens.

by CraigT on Oct 17, 2009 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Get over it?

GT has never gotten over UGA ever in anything. Pathetically obsessed.

by UgaMatt on Oct 17, 2009 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Did that make you feel better about your season?

I hope so. You all seem so miserable, even when you win. If talking about Tech makes that Tennessee game easier to take, then have at it. We don’t mind.

We’ll get over a loss, if it happens. We’ve got practice. We’ll still dislike Georgia, but it appears, based on tankertoad’s comment, and yours, that the feeling is mutual.

by CraigT on Oct 17, 2009 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry but GT lacked a decent team during the Chan Gailey years

So if you want to pick bones you may want to go back further than 2006.

by dawgblogit on Oct 17, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

See?

So much for the claim that the animosity is one-sided.

Since you bring it up, there’s this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9g9OUUib18

Now it’s your turn to mention Jasper Sanks. You always do, and it seems to be good for any number of bad calls the other way.

And I was sitting on the press box side that day, and I remember hearing Georgia fans cheer the rare first down.

by CraigT on Oct 17, 2009 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What animosity? You are crazy. Whatever meds you are on. CUT BACK.

I am just stating the facts. You THOUGHT a GT team from the Chan Gailey years was good? Sorry. You are mistaken.

Just an FYI. I do follow GT. My dad is an Alumni. Don’t blame me for the bad years.

Personally, I miss the George O’Leary Years.

by dawgblogit on Oct 17, 2009 8:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Did you read what I wrote?

I wrote that Tech should have won the 2006 game. Watch the clip.

“You are crazy. Whatever meds you are on. CUT BACK.” answers your own question about animosity.

by CraigT on Oct 17, 2009 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So wait . . .

in what world shouldn’t a Georgia team coming off a 37-15 victory over #5 Auburn beat a Georgia Tech team which went on to drop their last 3 after winning close ones over struggling UNC and NC State teams? I don’t know what the view was like from the visitors’ section that day, but every Georgia fan I know expected that we would win that game.

It's on ESPN360.com

if you’ve got a participating ISP. AT&T is one.

by CraigT on Oct 17, 2009 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm just wondering..........

since we actually won this week, does that mean I should continue what I did today and only watch the first half of the game the rest of the season?

by podunkdawg on Oct 17, 2009 10:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You might be doing that against Florida...

… but for entirely different reasons than superstition.

If you do that against the Gators, though, and it works… then yes, you have to do it the rest of the season. :-)
