Georgia Bulldogs at Tennessee Volunteers Game Day Open Comment Thread
Georgia Bulldogs at Tennessee Volunteers, Oct 10, 2009 12:21 PM EDT
We don't have to go very far back in history to find any number of clashes between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Tennessee Volunteers which had real bearing on the division race, the conference standings, and the national rankings. While this is not one of those games, it remains a consequential showdown for both teams, each of which potentially needs a win today to keep its season from spiraling out of control.
Knoxville has been the site of one of Mark Richt's greatest victories (in 2001) and one of his most disheartening defeats (in 2007). While we're in the process of finding out which way this game is going to go, please feel free to share your thoughts, reactions, impressions, exhortations, frustrations, and (I hope) celebrations in the comments below.
Go 'Dawgs!

Which Team will show up today?
A) The Offensive Powerhouse that doesn’t have a secondary?
B) The schizophrenic team that doesn’t have an offense or defense?
C) The complete team that has taken 5 weeks to develop?
Here is hoping for option C!!

Ask Ty Willingham. Our D can’t win games.
by dawgblogit on Oct 10, 2009 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He obviously
Has nothing to do with the first four. On TO’s, he has nothing to do with the ones we give up, but we’re forcing none against an interception prone quarterback, and when we turn it over, the other team almost always scores even when it has to go over fifty yards like today. Do we have other problems, yes, but the D is consistently bad. Today, TN is looking like a finely tuned offensive machine which is ridiculous because we know they are anything but that.
At least our all or nothing special teams is producing more all than nothing today, but we know there’s more excitement coming in that department.
What bothers me most is how wide open the wide outs are. Our coverage is a complete mess. It’s time to stop making excuses for WM, he is a disaster and has been for some time.

Good discussion, but
We have so many problems. All of these still keeps my believe a full house cleaning is in order. Willie is horrible, but CMR is the lead dawg. CMR wasn’t even wearing a heAdset the first defensive Series, which is hard for me to understand. The D is horrible, but we got problems every where and they do not seem to get addressed from week to week

Its the big problem with Richts even keeled manner. There needs to be a little passion and anger to do something to fix what’s going on.

when I was representing myself in Child Support Court in Warner Robins by telephone?
Funniest thing I ever heard a judge say – after I got done presenting my case (b/c the ADA in HoCo was/is completely incompetent) he said he just had one question for me – What happened to OU’s defense? I figured I had better come up with the magic answer so I said, Honestly, I have no idea, I’m a Bulldog fan. Turned out it was the right answer – so was the judge =) I also won my case with accolades from the Judge. I still hate HoCo CSE – with a passion.

I Hate this soft zone! Read: fire CWM. But the penalities, the ST, the pass protect, the no run, and well, even the D fall at the feet of the head coach. Until CMR gets some balls and makes some changes i am not solely blaming CWM. We are BOTTOM OF THE CONFERENCE IN EVERY CATEGORY.

Defense
A bend but don’t break relies on the shortened field from the “End Zone”
It is succeptible to these 30 yard runs that break through the box and into the secondary.
PLEASE HIRE someone that can coach the D so that we can have Defensive 3 and OUTS.

For the first time since '01...
I don’t feel optimistic about the future of this team. We can have all the top 10 recruitin’ classes in the world, but if you can’t do more than what we’ve done with ’em, something is wrong. Maybe we need to recruit some coaching.

As I stated in a fanpost or somewhere
I thought we would be better than this this year. However, I am not concerned about this year as much as I am abou the future. The lack of adjustments through this half the season and the inablity to get a back up quarterback a full quarter of football really concern me. I dont buy the “we are young” this year arguments: we said that last year and in many other years. This is college football. You are most always going to have a larger pool of underclassman. You need the handful of seniors and coaches to bring them up. It is likely (I dont wish for it, jsut being realistic) we are going to lose several more games this year. But the question is, can we learn from it? can we caoch up? Can we make changes and show some flexibility? Can we coach at the players level? Can we scrap the play calling on both sides of the ball if it isnt working and go to something that doesnt work? Can we stop the penalties and develop a run game of some sort to free up the play action? Those are hte things i would like to see flushed out over the next games.
I am still a huge CMR fan and a bulldog fan. I actually admired CMR for many years for his ability to go with what worked versus what he may have wanted to do. I would like to see a retun to that flexibility.

no it doesnt.
it is the same as the 1st and 10 bomb every week – never giving a chance to develop the play action and doesnt make sense. we have no run in part because we dont do anything to develop it.

Where does this rank on some of the all-time bad losses? It’s definitely worse than Tennessee in ‘07 and ’06, but I don’t think it’s as bad as Florida last year and in ’95…

This is nowhere near as bad as the Florida loss last year
Florida went on to the be National Champs.
Tennessee will make the Meineke Car Care Bowl if that. We let Crompton, who’s dad has punched out more fellow Tennessee fans than he has won games this year, throw for FOUR FREAKING touchdowns, a career record, and however much yards, also a career record.
Our O is awful. We have 3 points from the offense and 15 from special teams/D.
And despite the 15 points scored from our D/special teams, our D and special teams suck too!

… is there room on the “Fire Willie Martinez” bandwagon?
by vineyarddawg on Oct 10, 2009 3:17 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I can't believe I'm saying this but,
ultimately CMR is responsible. He MUST make some changes, whether in play calling, coaches, or whatever.
He’s earned an opportunity to recover from a bad season after 8 great ones, however, he has to step up and recover this team and reclaim the great tradition that is Georgia football.

CMR's integrity is on the line here
I love the man personally. I love who he is, what he stands for and the things he has done with and for our program. I believe he is a man of great integrity. But he absolutely MUST step up and say the buck stops here and FIX THIS.

As one of the last optimists for our assistant coaches
The sky is definitely falling.
I have been…not criticized, but disagreed with on here for supporting Martinez and Bobo. I honestly still think Bobo is really good when he gets in a rhythm. But Willie freaking Martinez….are you crapping me? I’m censoring myself here but this is a flipping crock.
It ain’t Joe Cox, it ain’t the players, it HAS to be the coaching. Penalties continue and continue and get ignored and “Oh we don’t mind”. GIMME A FREAKING BREAK.
Jesus christ. AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE I GOTTA SIT THROUGH A FLIPPING WASHINGTON REDSKINS GAME TOMORROW AND ACTUALLY CHEER FOR MY OTHER LOSER ASS TEAM!

T Kyle, this team is not what i make of it
we have problems in every single category. the stats support that statement. The record does as well. I want to be optimistic, but the only optimism I can find is we put things in motion for a great 5 years to follow this year – which doesnt seem to be happening at this time.

…no more “we” aren’t executing, blah, blah, blah. He needs to start owning-up that he has got to address the problems directly. That will be the first sign that he’s then willing to make the necessary changes in every aspect of the program.
