The General at Georgia?
Furman Bisher at the AJC is reporting that Bobby Knight is interested in the Bulldogs' head coaching job.
My first reaction is that, despite his checkered past in the area of personal discipline, he could definitely do a lot of good. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a coach seeing UGA as his "final job," though, espcially when he's not in a position to stay more than 4 or 5 years, tops.
One thing you have to say about him... he's graduated his players at every stop he's had.

I have mixed emotions about Knight, as well . . .
. . . but the fact of the matter is that he imposes discipline and expectations, shies away from “one and done” players, builds programs, and (as you said) graduates his players.
The guy’s a jerk, and there is more than a little hypocrisy in his demand for discipline from his players while he exercises so little self-discipline, but, if you want to put your program in the national consciousness and be sure you’re not going to get caught cheating by the N.C.A.A., he’s your man.
I still think young and up-and-coming is the way to go, but, if we’re looking to make a quick splash, there are worse ways to go. I just think we should build the program for the long haul.
I wouldn’t take the rumor too seriously, though. I mean . . . Furman Bisher?!?! I thought he had been forced out the door, but he certainly isn’t in a position to break any stories these days. Besides, the last time Bisher broke a story involving University of Georgia athletics, Wally Butts filed the lawsuit that put the Saturday Evening Post out of business.
Go 'Dawgs!
Let the interview process play out
I would like to see coach Knight in Athens. Having said that, I think we should take a good, hard look at the other candidates that are floating around out there. If Knight really wants the job, he’ll have to let the search happen with everyone fairly evaluted. If he is willing to be patient, he certainly should be able to present his case along with the others. But, is that the rub? Patience?
One thing is for sure…we are going to soon find out how many coaches out there besides Bobby Knight really want to come to Athens. Is Georgia really a great job just because Knight thinks so? Stegosaurus be damned, I think it is.
Abolish directional kicking.
Paul Finebaum says
that Knight is actually setting his sights on the Alabama job. But what do I know, the last time I attended a game was as a student when Vern Fleming, Terry Fair and James Banks were taking us to a Final Four and Hugh Durham prowled the floor.
Texas Tech is bad again
He didn’t exactly build up the program – just took them as far as he could. I think UGA could do much better by going young and have that coach build his own basketball legacy at UGA. People forget the Tubby years – he really had yall in a solid competitive state.
I think hiring an older coach with a history of winning, but maybe not by being the most upstanding guy sounds too familiar.
and FYI Braves….hiring Knight would not scare Florida in the least.
I like Bob Knight a lot
always been a fan of his, but I’d like us to go young right now.
The good ol’ AJC listed some possibilities, and there were some pretty young guys. I think with our athletic department, they’ll be going young because they want stability. I don’t think they wanna be hiring a new basketball coach in a couple years.
Knight would be great if we were a couple steps away from a NC, but right now we’re at best a couple steps away from an SEC win.
