Congrats to UGA....and lookie here! S-E-C!!
Congrats to the Bulldog Nation on a great Citrus Bowl victory (to heck with all the coproate sponsors and new names!). As I write this, Ole Miss just beat up one of the Big 12 "Big 3," and the game wasn't as close as the score. With the two SEC Championship teams left to play (and Kentucky playing now), the conference is off to a 4-1 start. Maybe Kyle was a little strong with his contention that the SEC is "down" this year. Perhaps some of the other teams (like Ole Miss) just picked up for perennial powers Tennessee and Auburn?
We'll have to revisit after the final 3 teams play....stay tuned and go S-E-C!
p.s. can we cut South Carolina out of the conference - sort of a "last in - first out" downsizing because of the battered economy?

Utah was a legitimately good team
They were no Hawaii. They were even beter than Utah ’04 and Boise ’06. This team played a respectable schedule and was well-coached. Alabama, quite frankly, overacheived throughout the season.
Well, my plan...
… is that we (that’s the Big East) send you USF, you return South Carolina to the ACC, and they return BC to us in the interest of geographic coherrence.
Not a bad idea
I think the only problem is that it works for football, but probably not for all sports…
South Florida?
No thanks. Besides, there are few enough members of the Big East that the conference could afford to bring in new members without unloading old ones.
With regard to the A.C.C., though, I’ll swap ’em South Carolina for Clemson any day of the week and twice on Saturday.
Go 'Dawgs!
In the interests of geographic coherrence...
teams in the Carolinas should definitely be in the ACC (South Carolina is the odd man out here), teams in the northeast should be in the Big East (BC and Penn State should be in the Big East), and teams in the deep south should be in the SEC.
Really, I think having one team in Florida a thousand miles from everyone else is unworkable long-term for the Big East; we’ll probably either end up adding UCF or USF will end up bolting the next time there’s a shake-up in the ACC or SEC.
so we should also get
FSU and Miami using that thought process…
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
Technically speaking ...
I believe the Citrus Bowl was the first bowl to change its name for its corporate sponsorship when it dropped “Tangerine” in favor of “Citrus”, having been brought to us by the Florida Citrus Growers Association. Thank you for your kind attention as I carry on my tradition of tangential comments.
More to the point
Along the LIFO vein, why not drop both Arkansas and South Carolina, eliminate the CCG, and go to a round robin? It’d never happen, I know, but I really like the round robin format.
Round Robins
work for basketball and baseball, but not football…..you need too much recovery time between games.
He means the season schedule
Like what the Pac Ten does. Every team plays every other team in a nine-game conference schedule, plus three non-conference games.
The dude abides.
