The Mark Richt Victory Watch

I am pleased to bring you the long-overdue return of the Mark Richt Victory Watch, in which we count down to Coach Richt’s eventual overtaking of Vince Dooley as the winningest coach in Georgia history.

The Mark Richt Victory Watch now stands at 82. Coach Richt needs just 119 more victories to tie Coach Dooley.

The Bulldogs’ Capital One Bowl victory improved Coach Richt’s record to 82-22 (.789) after 104 games. Despite the Red and Black’s stumble down the stretch, Mark Richt continues to have the best record of any Georgia coach at this point in his career.

After 104 games, Wally Butts was 75-26-3 (.736) and Vince Dooley was 69-30-5 (.688). While this afternoon’s outing was by no means the prettiest victory of the Mark Richt era, it still goes into the books as a W to continue Coach Richt’s run of success and give the Bulldogs their 25th all-time bowl win and their sixth ten-win season in the last seven years.

Go ‘Dawgs!

His record is just unbelievable

Since I came of age as a ‘Dawg fan in the 90’s under the Goff/Donnan years, these last 8 under Coach Richt have been like heaven. 10 win seasons in 6 of his 8 years is no small feat. There are some that think that Coach Richt doesn’t have the moxie is incapable of leading us to the ultimate goal. I disagree. We just need to keep being in position to win 10+ games every year, and eventually the breaks will come our way and we’ll get our chance. It took Bobby Bowden nearly 20 years to win a national title at Florida State and Tom Osborne more than 20 years to get his first national title at Nebraska. We consider those two to be two of the best coaches of all time. I think that as long as we’re in position to win 10+ games every year, we’ll eventually get that ultimate goal and Mark Richt will one day be looked on as one of the best coaches of all time.

I agree 100%. If you have what it takes to win 10 games 6 out of 8 years, you have what it takes to win national titles. The 2002, 2005, and 2007 teams were good enough to win a title, things just didn’t fall right to get a shot at the game.

Good record and good coach.

But let’s not get overwhelmed by another ho-hum bowl game against the Big Slow conference. GET US OUT OF THE BOWL TIE-UPS!

Tiger woods talks about "giving yourself a chance"

And that is what CMR does. Who knows an actually number – but if you dont think luck plays into a championship – you are crazy. So, you put together the best run at it possible over and over and eventually maybe a little luck will fall your way. 10 win seasons are just awesome, and our bowl record is definitely strong.

Forget the bowls and focus on the Big Game (The GOAL)

I have the utmost respect and admiration for Mark Richt. I believe he is one of those coaches overtime will have the same respect and honor as The Bear and Jopa…there are not many who lead by example and demand ethical behavior left in coaching…
Here comes the however…
The bottom line goal of Mark and his staff should be no less than SEC Championship that leads to the BCS Championship game. That means no loss to Florida, no loss to Tennessee, Auburn no SEC loss period! I love the idea of playing teams out West, but why Tennessee Tech? You want to know how to play against the best in a bowl game, you play the best! What if UGA lost 2 games to a USC and an Oklahoma…Strength of Schedule! What if UGA won the 2 games….Strength of Schedule! Just win BABY!
