The Mark Richt Victory Watch
It is time once again for the posting to which I most look forward each and every week of football season . . . namely, the Mark Richt Victory Watch, during which we count down each victory en route to Mark Richt’s inevitable overtaking of Vince Dooley for the all-time school record for career wins.
The Mark Richt Victory Watch now stands at 74. Coach Richt needs just 127 more wins to tie Coach Dooley for the top spot in Georgia history.

At 74-19, Mark Richt has the best record ever by a Bulldog coach after spending 93 games strolling the Sanford Stadium sideline. At the same point in their respective careers, Harry Mehre (57-32-4), Wally Butts (67-24-2), and Vince Dooley (63-26-4) all were well behind Mark Richt in wins and losses.

Great win. Great win. UGA looked very solid.

Well Done Dawgs
UGA looked great against the mighty Chips. The offense was balanced and the D was able to do something no MAC team can do. They hurried Fever with only a 4 man rush and didn’t have to blitz. That is more impressive than it sounds. CMU has 2 or 3 future NFL guys (late round picks) on the O-line.
From CMU’s point of view, I would have liked to see Fever run a little more, I think that would have opened some things up down field. The D played hard but were overmatched by a relentless O-line. The Int return for a TD was a viscous blow below the belt for a team playing the number 2 team in the land and looking at a possible 21-7 halftime score despite being dominated. What in the H*** were we doing on our kickoffs? UGA started every possession at the 40. UGGGHHH!
I guess I’m nit-picking. Good luck Dawgs. We will go back to pantsing the Ball States and Ohio’s of the world and try for a 3rd MAC title. Hopefully we can beat Purdue and/or Indiana and prove we can compete against BCS teams.

Best of luck to y'all
I speak for all of Bulldog Nation when I say I hope Central Michigan runs the table, wins a third straight M.A.C. championship, and beats every Big Ten team the Chippewas run across, whether in the regular season or in the Motor City Bowl.
I know what you mean about the kickoffs. I felt the same way about what we were doing.

ESPN coverage was terrible :(
The three main college football writers at ESPN:
Mark Schlabach:
schlabachma@yahoo.com
Pat Forde
ESPN4D@aol.com
Ivan Maisel
ivan.maisel@espn3.com
Write to them and tell them you are unhappy with the current lack of coverage for UGA’s games. Also note the absurd loss of #1 votes from the USA/Coaches poll.
If they get feedback, it might help.

ESPN coverage might have been lacking, but. . .
I hate to say it, but Larry, like JoePa and Bobby B, must realize that it’s time to hang it up. Poor Larry in his first game this year asked “Who is the watergirl” when Chuck Dowdle mentioned the segment called “The Watergirl Wants to Know” on Coach Richt’s highlight show. Several times in the Central Michigan game, he said it was the Chips ball when Georgia had just fielded a punt. And, the unforgiveable, he did not say “Get the picture” Saturday just before kickoff. (He barely remembered it in the Southern game. ) When they play his commercial announcements for various sponsors, his voice is strong like it once was; but the live broadcasts have exposed a tired, if not sick, voice. We love you, Larry, but we don’t want you to embarrass yourself. It’s time to go.

Agreed
Let’s not forget his confusion of Kris Durham with Wes Durham. Mixing up one player with another is one thing—-confusing, say, Boss Bailey with Champ Bailey is understandable—-but mistaking a Georgia player for a Georgia Tech broadcaster? (Wes, by the way, was born the year Larry became the Bulldogs’ play-by-play man.)
Calling Kris “Hugh Durham” I could excuse. But Wes?

Blasphemers
Really?!! REALLY?! Is anyone seriously suggesting that Larry Munson should not do the Dawg games anymore?
As far as I am concerned Larry can get all the names wrong, the teams wrong and the possession wrong. He IS Larry Munson and THE Voice of the Georgia Bulldogs.
He is not embarrassing himself - listen to an away game without Larry – it just isn’t the same.
Please stick to that which is worthy of discussion and not to that which borders on the sacreligious.

There is a solution
Larry has been doing this since 1966, we have recordings of all of his broadcasts, and there are only so many English words that are needed to describe a football game. (“Sesquipedalian” is a good word to know, but it is not necessary when calling a game.)
I say we get the proper authorities in Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall to clip snippets, word-by-word, from Larry’s game calls, digitize them, plug them into a sound board with each button labeled with a different word, and create a Larry Munson Play-by-Play Generator™.
After a couple of years, it’d be impossible to get the players’ names right (“Mohamed Massaquoi” and “Knowshon Rockwell Moreno” are not names we could have anticipated just a few years ago), but, then, Larry hasn’t been getting those right for several years, anyway. Put a guy in charge of pressing the right buttons and . . . presto! Lifelike Larry from computer technology, while the real thing can go fishing. It’s the ultimate Munson mixer. Everyone goes home a winner.

Blasphemer?
Put me down for remembering Ed Thelenius, who was the VOICE of Georgia football before Munson. We all felt the same way when Ed departed for that new phenomenon, television. No one could ever replace Ed! Guess what, Munson did; AND, someone will replace Munson. It is now time. If you are in the stadium and can see the action, you can overlook his errors; but, if you are depending on his accuracy to “get the picture”, then those days are over. I, for one, was never one who had to listen to "what Larry had to say’ about a play while sitting in the stands. Larry has done a good job, but it’s now time to move forward.
