Fun CMR Coaching Stat Observation
I can't believe it took this long, but something just dawned on me. It might only interest me, but here goes:
Coach Richt's record over his first 7 seasons between the hedges is a sparkly 72-19 (79.1%). Jim Donnan's career record at Georgia over his 5-year run was 40-19 (67.8%).
So what?, you say? Notice the same number of losses. For Donnan to have attained the same record as Coach Richt had he been retained by Vince Dooley, he would have had to go on an all-time 33-game winning streak (UVA + 32 more wins).
That boggles my mind. Oh and for the record, that 72nd win would've been the 2003 Alabama game.

Does that factor in . . .
. . . the 2001 S.E.C. championship game in which the ‘Dawgs did not play but would have played had Georgia gone 11-0 that autumn?
Either way, good stuff.
Go 'Dawgs!

Yes
13 games in 2001 + 14 games in 2002 + 5 games into 2003 = 32 additional games.
And I realized that in counting up games, I never really typed out my conclusion. It is apparent that despite some questioning Dooley’s sanity for firing a good coach, they were wise (and lucky) to hire Richt. He has been able to take us from the 8-win average to a 10+ win average in the toughest conference in football.
