Random Question That Occurred to Me While Getting Out of the Shower
Once Georgia State's football program is up and running, what is Georgia Tech going to do about a band?
If I recall correctly, the Georgia Tech band is made up of Georgia State music students. Presumably, these students will be needed for the Georgia State band when Georgia State begins playing football.
What will Georgia Tech do then? Will the Yellow Jackets do away with their band the way they once dynamited seats out of their own stadium? Will we no longer be in store for stirring renditions of a Budweiser commercial jingle from the 1970s? Will the Institute offer for our halftime entertainment a legion of flag boys with no musical accompaniment?
Discuss.

Here’s perhaps a more pertinent question: Once Georgia State’s football program is up and running, what is Georgia Tech going to do about a football team?
I mean, they already have to compete with Georgia Southern (and, to some extent, South Carolina and Auburn) for the tier of in-state recruits left over after UGA picks through them; now they’ve got another competitor right in their own backyard, one that presumably won’t be saddled with the burden of having to convince players to come join some gimmick offense that hasn’t taken a major-conference team to any kind of championship in years.
(OK, I’m asking this question partly in an effort to simply cheese off the Tech folks. But only partly.)
Have you ever been to the Georgia State campus?
I work a few blocks from it and find it a wretched, soul-draining place. If I were a football recruit, I’m not sure I’d go there if they managed to reanimate Bear Bryant (yes, Alabama fans, he is dead) and used Barnett-esque recruiting tactics. I sure as heck wouldn’t go there to play for a reanimated Bill Curry.
Wait a minute . . .
They have a band? I’m sorry, I guess they only get fired up after big Tech wins, thereby explaining why I haven’t heard them in 7 years or so.
It's not just--or mainly--State students.
The GT band has always welcomed students from any University System school with no band, including Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Southern Poly, etc. The vast majority of band members are Tech students, though. Honestly I think it’s a pretty darn good band considering GT offers no degree in music.
degree in music
Actually, Tech offers a minor in music and a M.S. in Music Technology with concentrations on performance and education.
