Do they have to interrupt the Miami lovefest to interview the LSU coach? Couldn’t they at least wait until between innings?

when i saw

mike patrick was the commentator, i wanted to set an over under on how many players names he would mispronounce. well sure enough i turn the tv on after dinner and the first thing i just heard was “cerino”. Of course he’s referring to CF Matt Cerione.

Hey look, Erin Andrews! Ow ow!!!!

Larry Munson: "Whaddya got for us Loran?"
Loran Smith: "Well Larry, I'm down here with Charles Grant...and he just loves boiled peanuts!"
Larry Munson: "Good stuff, Loran"

I'm feeling reasonably good so far.

We’re keeping up with hits and runs. I’d like to see us avoid any more double plays.

Dammit.

No, Gordo. Getting caught stealing second is not what I had in mind.

gutsy pitch

from mcree on a 3-2 count. Changeup way down in the zone

Larry Munson: "Whaddya got for us Loran?"
Loran Smith: "Well Larry, I'm down here with Charles Grant...and he just loves boiled peanuts!"
Larry Munson: "Good stuff, Loran"

I reckon

If you’re gonna be gutsy, now’s the time.

Hangin' In

real nice so far. The Hernandez kid started out on fire, but we’ve actually got more hits than them now, and our committee of pitchers (ok, only 2 so far) has more K’s at this point.

Let’s push out in front here. (Top of 7th)

31-17; 14 in a row.

One out, one on in the seventh

The longer we hang around, the better I feel.

Mike Patrick actually agrees

Robbed

I can’t believe that call on Thoms’s checked swing.

by NCT on Jun 14, 2008 9:34 PM EDT reply actions

How was that checked swing a strike . . .

. . . if the previous checked swing wasn’t?

And, by the way, did David Thoms’s sister not look at a baseball schedule when she planned her wedding?

by T Kyle King on Jun 14, 2008 9:34 PM EDT reply actions

I think Erin meant . . .

. . . he was a Negro League baseball player.

That, or Jill Arrington’s pronunciation of David Pollack’s surname has just taken a back seat on the list of ethnically insensitive gaffes during Georgia sports broadcasts.

Seriously, though, there have been some great defensive plays by the Diamond Dogs this game.

mike patrick

jinxed that one. before alonso came up orel made a comment about how well mcree was doing until mike patrick just HAD to open his mouth.

What did EA actually say kyle?

Larry Munson: "Whaddya got for us Loran?"
Loran Smith: "Well Larry, I'm down here with Charles Grant...and he just loves boiled peanuts!"
Larry Munson: "Good stuff, Loran"

by loran smith on Jun 14, 2008 9:41 PM EDT reply actions

She said something along the lines of . . .

. . . “he was a Negro player,” when, clearly, she meant a Negro League player.

It was an honest mistake, but you have to be careful about that kind of thing.

The radio guys

also agreed that Thoms got jobbed. I can’t see it b/c I’m not near good tv so I’m following the gamecast (where they do all the plays on a little diamond on the computer screen) in one window and listening to the national ESPN radio broadcast in another window. Anyway, the radio crew went on and on about the bad check swing call.

Sucks that Alonso just took Myammuh back in front, though.

c'mon fellas

gotta protect the plate with two strikes. Can’t take pitches all day, esp when we’re down a run

Yeah

that just sucks. Gotta swing the bat.

by Xon on Jun 14, 2008 9:59 PM EDT reply actions

I will say

that the balls and strikes have been consistent for the most part imo. Seems like 2-3 inches off the plate if it initially was over the plate and broke off is a strike. Rich should have known that last inning.

Larry Munson: "Whaddya got for us Loran?"
Loran Smith: "Well Larry, I'm down here with Charles Grant...and he just loves boiled peanuts!"

by loran smith on Jun 14, 2008 10:06 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed

The home plate ump arguably calls a generous strike zone, but it was clear by the third inning where his strike zone was and both teams’ pitchers have to be mindful of that.

Yes! Bryce Massanari leads off the ninth with a base hit!

Did you see him in the dugout? In his mind, this game’s already over.

kyle

I’ll believe it when there’s 3 outs and the game is final. Fields did give up some runs against NC St.(although that was with like a 35 run lead it seemed like). His stuff does look filthy though tonight, maybe filthier than last Sunday if that’s possible

HUGE win

That was a real thrill to see our guys beat the #1 team like that. That Miami team is seriously good. Now we get to be in the winner’s bracket.

For now…here’s hoping we come out on Monday and keep playing hard.

Orel

you’re a great pitcher and everything but if Mike Patrick can get his facts right, so can you. We’re NOT unseeded, that’s the other Bulldogs you fool. Ughhhh, is it just me or does simple things like that get to just me or everyone else too?

Larry Munson: "Whaddya got for us Loran?"

Maybe I just don't understand the tournament

... but at least twice the announcers have referred to Georgia as “unseeded”. Huh?

by NCT on Jun 14, 2008 10:38 PM EDT reply actions

they're wrong NCT

Orel keeps saying that but we’re the #8 seed in the tourney. He keeps confusing us with the Fresno State Bulldogs who are unseeded and are the lowest seeded (as in lowest unseeded, since seeding only go to 8, if that makes any sense). The regionals start with 8 national seeds and then everyone else.

Larry Munson: "Whaddya got for us Loran?"

I thought maybe I was hearing “unseeded” but he was saying something else.

by NCT on Jun 14, 2008 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions

So

Miami is ranked #4 but is the #1 seed?

31-17; 14 in a row.

by Xon on Jun 14, 2008 10:43 PM EDT reply actions

Miami

Is the #1 overall seed.

Larry Munson: "Whaddya got for us Loran?"

Larry Munson: "Good stuff, Loran"

by loran smith on Jun 14, 2008 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Thanks

I just edumacated myself at the cwsomaha website. “Unseeded” means that you were not one of the top 8 teams at the start of the Regionals round. Those two teams are Stanford (who beat the national seed Cal State Fullerton in the Superregional) and Fresno State (who beat nat’s seed AZ State in the Super).

But on the Omaha site they have “(4)” after Miami in the bracket. I’m not sure what that’s all about.

31-17; 14 in a row.

by Xon on Jun 14, 2008 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

if you are referring

to this site then that was miami’s score from the game we just played them in. they already updated it

Larry Munson: "Whaddya got for us Loran?"
Loran Smith: "Well Larry, I'm down here with Charles Grant...and he just loves boiled peanuts!"
Larry Munson: "Good stuff, Loran"

by loran smith on Jun 14, 2008 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Ah . . .

. . . thanks for clearing that up, Loran. I couldn’t make sense of Miami being described as No. 4 in anything.

Go 'Dawgs!

by T Kyle King on Jun 14, 2008 10:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, "4" after Miami makes no sense

Every team is seeded, one through four, in its region for the first round at the 16 regional sites. Usually, the host team is seeded No. 1 in its region, but not always. (Ann Arbor was the exception this year.)

In addition, there are eight national seeds, all of whom are regional hosts. If they win the regional they are hosting (and in which they are the top seed), they will get to host a super regional.

Fresno State was the No. 4 seed in the Long Beach Regional, but the Golden State Bulldogs advanced, winning the super regional over host Arizona State. When F.S.U. is referred to as a No. 4 seed, that refers to their regional seeding.

Fresno State has no national seed, however, as the national seeding only goes one through eight. The eight national seeds were No. 1 Miami, No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Arizona State, No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 Cal State Fullerton, No. 6 Rice, No. 7 L.S.U., and No. 8 Georgia. F.S.U. is unseeded nationally.

Well that was unexpected.

Yowza. That got intense. Im actually sitting here with somebody who called the E1 before the pitch was thrown. As impressive as the game was, that prediction is what im gonna remember most.

Was at Wild Wings in downtown Athens

And the place was hanging on every pitch. When the final out was recorded, we were high-fiving the waiters and everybody in the place. Yes, I know the high five is dated, but come on! The Dawgs just knocked #1 seed Miami out of the winners bracket! That’s high five worthy if I do say so myself.

by blackertai on Jun 15, 2008 2:17 AM EDT reply actions

Was also at Wild Wings in downtown Athens

But had to leave around the 3rd, game was tied 1-1 by then, but man, that place was already getting pumped! I love going there during football season during home games in which i have no tickets to or away games. the atmosphere is awesome! I remember i was there for the UGA-GT football game last year, and at halftime they switched over to the Tenn-Kentucky game. Everyone there was on the edge of their seats! Too bad UK lost!
