It is a sad, sad day. . .
Miami Offensive Coordinator and Professional Counter Patrick Nix has been relieved of his duties by Head Coach Randy Shannon.
Nix says that the problem was a philosophical difference, and that he wanted to open things up and go more wide open. Shannon might characterize the philosophical divide differently. After fielding the 89th best total offense in D1-A, Shannon just felt like they needed to score more points and move the ball. Such shortsightedness.
This does free up Bulldog fans' favorite molder of young quarterbacks to take a breather, take stock, and look for new opportunities. Like at Tennessee. Please Coach Kiffin, hire Patrick Nix. And Ed Orgeron. A staff that includes Nix and The Orgeron could provide half this blogger's content in 2009. It would be the solar power of sports bloggery, a clean, renewable source of low cost hilarity. Make it happen, Kiffy. This is a matter of national security.
Back later today with, and I can't believe I'm writing this, Cocktail Tuesday. Until then . . .

Hope that helps.

Y'all got Chavis and Orgeron?
I’d say the L.S.U. downcycle is officially over.

The Orgeron rumors have picked up steam
Semi-respected journalists like Glenn Guilbeau are reporting that there is an agreement in principle. He will supposedly “decide” on Thursday whether he will go to LSU, go to Tennessee, or stay with the Saints. The LSU-centric websites and journalists couldn’t be more optimistic about it.
I hope it’s true, because I think he’s probably just about the best in the business at coaching defensive linemen. The list of great defensive linemen he’s coached is a long one indeed. He failed as a head coach, but lots of people do.

Not too surprised
When the crown jewel of your coaching career is Reggie Ball, that ain’t saying much.

Let's just hope . . .
Patrick Nix catches on somewhere. Because a thursday night ACC game on ESPN without a Patrick Nix offense is just no fun.
