What about a lil UGA option?
I hope if stafford leaves we use logan gray some in an option type role with knowshon or his replacement. Joe Cox is gunna give us a decent shot at winning. I dnt think he will win you alot of games but i dont see him as being as prone to make the mistakes stafford does. If logan can return kicks he must be pretty quick and have good hands I think he might be good in the option.

wait a second
let’s ease off of the whip-its for a minute. i think i would refer to logan gray more as a “punt fielder who occasionally realizes he can do something besides fair catch” than as a kick returner. i also don’t want to see him run the option. let joe throw, part deux.
also
i’ll add that barring an injury or a complete breakdown on the part of joe cox (assuming stafford leaves this year, that is), i don’t think gray will ever see the field for extended periods of time. hello, headset.

Logan Gray
Maybe we should all go back and look at Logan again when he was being heavily recruited by not only UGa but about every other school in the Big 12….This guy has 4.4 speed…elusiveness and a cannon for an arm. He was the 10th ranked QB in the nation and a 5 star recruit. The only reason he has beenn “returning punts”….is cuz we have a guy named Stafford at the QB position….Now I know he is no MS and I have no idea if he will bethe next answer at the position…but he isnt exactly chopped liver as a QB. He cant really be compared to Matt since Matt is a pro style QB and Logan is a dual threat….Again I am not sayin he’s the man…but I’d like to see how he will preform before I write him off.
I agree
I wanna see what Gray can do in a game.
Get out the Shockley playbook and let’s let ’em play. Joe Cox will be servicable, but Gray could maybe be a gamechanger.
I also wouldn’t mind seeing both used, which I think is likely. Have Cox be like David Green and Gray come in like Shockley, but even then I think Gray will outperform.
Cox can manage a game and won’t lose a game for us, Gray has the potential to win games for us. At least I hope so.
On that note
let’s go back and look at Joe Cox when he was being heavily recruited. He was the seventh ranked quarterback in the nation according to rivals. I’ve been told that Richt has called him the most accurate quarterback he’s ever coached. I wasn’t implying that Gray didn’t have the talent to be on the field, he certainly does, I simply meant that Cox has more experience with the offense and if it comes down to it next year, I think Cox will be the starter. Yes, Gray is talented and has all the tools, but he has no in-game experience running the offense. In high school, he was a spread quarterback. Can he be converted to run a pro-style offense? Of course. Will it work?
In all honesty, with the weapons we should have on offense, what’s wrong with a quarterback who knows how to manage an offense, has a fair amount of in-game experience, and won’t lose the game with a costly pick? Let’s not forget which quarterback threw for a touchdown against Florida this year or for two against Colorado as a redshirt freshman. Cox is the same guy who broke all of Chris Leak’s records in North Carolina and won state championships. These “he can manage a game and won’t lose it” arguments are the same kind of things LSU people said about Matt Flynn when comparing him with Perriloux before their 2007 season, and we know how that turned out for them.
To reiterate, I’m not saying Gray doesn’t have the tools to be a good quarterback. I think after next year, the job will be between Gray and Murray to battle it out. For the time being, I simply would prefer to have Cox, a fifth-year senior with extensive knowledge of the offense and much more experience, under center. As far as Gray’s punt returning abilities and high propensity to fair catch, that is evidence to why you don’t want a quarterback returning punts.

I don't really care who ends up as QB
As long as they DON’T revert back to that awful Greene/Shockley thing we used to do awhile back. That was a terrible system that never allowed either QB to get into a rhythm, and as I recall, absolutely no one was a fan of it.

Agreed
You can’t have your quarterback thinking “I have to make something happen in the first two or three drives or I’m gonna get yanked.” I remember a certain GA/FL game a few years back where that system worked flawlessly. I think we finished that game 0-13 on third down conversions? Great.
Good post
If you had only said that to begin with….lol agree with evry point you made hailtogeorgia…I say start Cox and throw in Logan ever so often….not that crazy 2 QB system…..just enough to throw defenses out of rhythm. I dont care much for using the triple option….I think most people will figure out how to defend that soon enough…..but I would like to see us use some formations with all the RB’s we have available….kinda like Auburn a few years ago with Brown and Cadillac.
What im saying is if Gray has 4.4 speed and we could have samuels ( a Bull) and king (a snake) in the backfield with him we could run a lil triple option and maybe even a hybrid spread. I wanna see UGA get away from the constant pro style offence. All the points I just made i take back if Knowshon stays. But why cant we be a lil more variable on the offensive side. We have seen what UF has done this year and they run a lil of everything. A d would be hard presssed to be ready for everything. And if we find something that is a strength against a team we should exploit it. As a d I wish we had Blue back. God do i miss BLUUUUUUUUUU! Lets go UGA. I think we have a shot at a national title every year. We have deep talent at every position NOW lets start playing with intensity and FINISH THE DRILL
No.
whutch24, I completely respect your opinion to want to see Richt/Bobo use triple option or a hybrid spread. However, this is not something I believe should be attempted. Aside from the glamour and flash, can you give reasons as to why you want to see UGA move away from a pro-style offense? I can’t really think of any shining advantages right now. Why do you rescind your points if Knowshon stays? Does that take away the fact that Gray, Samuel, and King are also good players? Florida has not made the strides they have this year on offense because they “run a little of everything”. They run a spread. They rarely line up in a pro-set or an I-formation. Florida has the results they have this year because they are playing good defense, they have unbelievable speed, superb special teams, and a spread offense run by a beast of a quarterback who is minimizing his mistakes and knows how to get the ball to his playmakers. Speaking of which, there seems to be another team in the SEC that will be playing in Atlanta this weekend that has pretty decent results and a coach with the same number of national championships as Urban Meyer, and they won’t even think about the spread or the triple option. You say that a defense would be hard pressed to be ready for everything. This is a valid point. Conversely, an offense is also hard pressed to be ready for everything. Do you know what happens to the guys who can do a pretty good job at everything? They lose to the guys who do one or two things excellently. As for getting nostalgic and wishing for players back, I can think of a few free safeties I would rather have roaming around besides Greg Blue. I’m not meaning to disagree with you on all of this, but I guess that’s just how it happens. Blue was a good player and did a very good job making the big hit, but he had only okay hands, was notorious for being out of position and being a mediocre open field tackler. I remember Pat White and Steve Slaton repeatedly embarrassing him in the Sugar Bowl. If we’re talking about bringing back stellar safeties, give me Sean Jones or Thomas Davis over Greg Blue any day of the week.
As far as if we keep Knowshon, he is completely a pro style back. I dont think he has the speed needed to run the option. And why change what he has done this year. And i want blue back because he was an energizer. If I could have any player back it would be pollack, but Blue would take heads off and struck fear into recievers. Have you seen where the vandy reciever came aross the middle a fe wyears back and blue caught him mid air and sidewalk slammed him? Im not saying we shift our o completely im talking 70-80% pro style and the rest spread or option or insert here________. I just wanna be less predictable. And damn do I ever wish we could tackle. I go along with the questioning martinez but watch the tech replay. On one play we missed 5 to 6 should be tackles. And reshard with his nudging needs to be grabbed by the face mask and given a chewin. Maybe Im going a bit out there but I thought this time of year I would be ramping up for atlanta. So im trying to find new things to do.
