This is the point Willie was missing all year

In today's MMQB article by Peter King, he included a quote from Rod Marinelli (the now disposed Lions HC) regarding the worst season in NFL history; "Rod is a very good man. He thanked us for fighting to the end. But he said to us, 'This is us. We own this. We did this. So man up.' ''  This is the thing that drove me nuts about Willie all season.  His quotes were always "We're in the right positions, just not making plays"....  I know he eventually came forward saying that leadership begins with him and some of the blame can be focused on him, but I think that was too little too late.  I hated that he was so willing to throw his players under the bus during the season and not shoulder any of the criticism until after season end.  I think more people could take that advice from Coach Marinelli above rather than living in a world of denial that seemed to afflict Coach Martinez all season.  I feel better now after getting that off my chest.

We are forced to hope for the best going forward

In my opinion, Martinez should go. Its the way we have lost games in grandiose blowout fashion dating back to the WVU sugar bowl. I haven’t heard a convincing response to the defensive failures this season, other than injuries, which evidently Searles was able to coach around. I was hoping we would try to get Coach Chavis from UT, but I saw today that LSU hired him. We are left to hoping for the best going forward with Martinez.

As always, AuditDawg, you make a fine argument

However, I object to your use of the definite article.

This was a point Willie was missing all year. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the only one.

There's a reason...

…I studied Accounting instead of English at UGA.

To be fair

See : Rashad Jones in the Georgia Tech game.

That’s the definition of having a player in the right position but the player not executing.

But that’s not to say WM isn’t to blame for the lack of execution, and I do get your point.

Killer Instinct

What just about had me throwing all UGA paraphernalia out the door at the end of the season was the lack of “killer instinct” and stupid mistakes (lack of discipline).
Look at Utah and the killer instinct they showed when they had Bama on the ropes or what the hated Gators do so often to GA…get them on the ropes and do not let up.
That’s not to say you have personal foul after personal foul etc…that the defense seems to do far too often. You play within the rules, play disciplined ball but when you get the chance to take the shot you make it count. I am sick and tired of the "let me throw an arm around him and he may fall down or the provebial let me throw my body in front of him and miss the ball carrier all together. Hit him/stick him, wrap him up and drive him backwards. Or at least that was what I was taught.
