MARTINEZ WILL BE RETAINED AS DC
Well, I can't explain it, but Mark Richt has no plans of relieving coach Martinez of his Defensive Coordinator duties. I must say that I am suprised and disappointed. I made a completely sober promise last night to friends and family as I was leaving Sanford Stadium. I intend to keep that promise. As long as Willie Martinez walks the sidelines at the University of Georgia, I will not sit in the stands. My brother has begged me to keep my tickets, so I guess I'll make my donation, but I'm giving him the cash. I refuse to write the check...

Richt is loyal
You’ve gotta give him that, if nothing else.

Forgot to Mention...
I will continue my donation to the university, just not to the athletic dept (William C Hartman Jr., Fund). Once a Dawg, always a Dawg.

I respect the integrity of your position, RealisticDawg . . .
. . . even though I will not be taking a similarly hardline stance.
There is another way out, of course. There’s always the Neil Callaway option: get him hired as a head coach someplace else.
Are there any vacancies coming open in the M.A.C., perhaps?

Just what I was thinking...
After the events of this year, I’m not entirely convinced that Neil Callaway would not still be coaching the O-line if he had not had the opportunity to coach UAB.
Willie’s passed up other head coaching opportunities; I wonder if Richt will discreetly “encourage” him to take the next one that is offered (if any are).

Let's start the letter campaign...
for Willie Martinez as the next coach at Bowling Green State University!
Or, for that matter, Miami University. If they came calling CWM would definitely bolt. The “original Miami” has a reputation for hiring great future coaches… Jim Tressel, Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, Ara Parseghian, Red Blaik, Weeb Eubank, along with names like Ron Zook, Randy Walker, and the late Terry Hoeppner. So, on second thought, they are typically good judges of talent, so our best bet is for Bowling Green, at least out of the MAC.
Hey, isn’t Florida International looking for a new coach? That’s down around CWM’s old stomping grounds.

All kidding aside . . .
. . . I believe Willie Martinez was in the running the last time F.I.U. (or F.A.U., I forget which) was in the market for a new head coach.

Also . . .
. . . sadly, “the late” applies to Randy Walker, who died suddenly (I believe it was a heart attack), as well as to Terry Hoepner, who passed away following a long battle with cancer. By all accounts, they were two good guys who were taken from us too soon.

Enough is ENOUGH
Losing is one thing. Losing – repeatedly- with a defense that is literally EMBARASSING is another. And the very worst part is the CMR and Damon Evans and everybody at Butts-Mehre literally just don’t care.
And the ONLY way they’re ever gonna care is if the money dries up and they realize the fan base is fed up with mediocrity, that we have a zero tolerance policy for losing to Tech and that “golly gee, it’ll be ok” is NOT acceptable when doing so. Do the American economy and Georgia football team a favor – spend your money elsewhere until they get the point.

notice the wording
I would like to point out that Richt did not say that there will be no changes to the coaching staff, rather, he just said that he did not expect any changes to be made. In my opinion, if the heat from some big alumni starts coming down the pipe, it might cease to be Richt’s choice to make. Granted, I could be splitting hairs about the syntax of the thing, but in an age where all kinds of decrees are made about coaching decisions and then later rescinded (Nick Saban, Brian Van Gorder, Tony Franklin), I would not doubt that Richt could just be leaving himself an out so he doesn’t end up looking like Tuberville if it does end up happening.

I heard on 790 the zone in Atanta this morning
That Bowden said of Richt that he might be “to nice” for the NC job. Thats a strange thing to say but with this decision it might have come true. They were talking about how there are certain coaches in the league that “get in” players faces no matter what the score and it seems like Richt takes a more laid back approach. I don’t know if thats true. I have seen him lose his temper a few times. I do know that there are more than a few coaches in the SEC being asked to “reevaluate” their position coaches and coordinators. The Barn, LSU just to name a few. UT has already done the dirty deed, MSU is a complete mess and im sure some folks over at USC are questioning the ole ball coach. So take heart Dawg fans. You’re not the only fan base going through this.
Here’s a question. Do you think that Richt isn’t "firing’’ him because he has an offer as a HC and that would tarnish his chances at getting the job? Might be a reach but its worth thinking about. Especially if Richt is so nice.

Loylty can get you killed
Yes, Richt may b loyal, but that in the long run can cost him. I respect his loyalty. It is truly admirable, especially in an environment such as the SEC. However, Richt is ending a season that could be categorized as the most under-achieving teams in UGA history. This team may have had a chance this year if we had some ability to stop effective offenses (obvious weak link).
Don’t think for one minute that Richt couldn’t be fired eventually for not ‘getting ovre the hump’. Rememeber that Coach Donnan was let go because he could not get over the 8 win season hump. Now that GA is over that and has made it to the next level, expectations are raised higher. It is now expected that GA compete every year in the national championship picture and that we….BEAT FL. If Richt doesn’t find a way to overcome the bridesmade perception that GA has establised with FL, don;t think for one minute that he couldnt be fired eventually.
I do not want to see Richt fired, let me get that straight. However, if he is unable to truly make a foothold in the SEC East and beat FL every other year, he will be shown the door. This is the most competitve conference in the nation and has become even more so in te last 3-4 years. Change is inevitable.
