O where o where has the Defense gone...

Don't have all the answers but i'm willing to start 2009 with a different D coord.

Check out the points per game against while WM has been D coord..

16.4 ppg in '05.

17.6 ppg in '06.

20.02 ppg in '07.

25.6 ppg in '08.

This is a brutal trend.  Time to let the fellow Hurricane go and find a more than capable replacement.  bye bye wm.  see ya

Dawgs loss to Tech

I will always be a Dawg, but they have played undisciplined all year on both sides of the ball, and on special teams. Not one Tech player was locked up this year. Heck, we had our latest this week. There is no discipline on the field or off. Who would we get as a new D coordinator? I love coach R., but he needs to learn a lesson from this season, open up every position, make people work their butts off in the weight room, make it known that if you can’t stop getting drunk and locked up you are going to sit and if need be go home. Stupid penalties, sit on the bench. Skill players, skill without discipline on and off the field is a 9-3 record. we have won a couple this year that we shouldn’t have, and this one we finally got paid for beng undisciplined.

At least our former quarterback . . .

. . . who was one of multiple academically ineligible athletes fielded over a period of many years in several sports didn’t get picked up by the law after celebrating Cinco de Mayo a bit too enthuiastically a matter a days after being hired at his alma mater.

Go 'Dawgs!

Defense?

From where I was sitting, the defense looked all right. Tech was 100%. Our offense and special teams made mistakes. I have no complaints about the defense.

Were you watching the same game as I???

Did you miss the 60 yard TD runs? Did you not see Matt Stafford throw for 400+ yards and 5 TD’s? I hope you’re joking, because the defense was horrible today. Today was not on the offense or special teams. It was all defense. 400+ yards rushing is not the offense’s fault.

AD - i agree with you more than ever - but

3 (or was it four) out of bound KOs is way out of line. Tech’s field position was just INCREDIBLE. THere are HUGE problems on STs and HUGE problems on the Offense flipping the field.

You're right, tankertoad . . .

. . . but, when there are multiple problems, the worst must be fixed first.

Georgia Tech had good field position, but (with the exception of the Richard Samuel fumble) the Yellow Jackets’ field position never once had anything to do with the fact that they scored. Had the Ramblin’ Wreck started from the 20, their 60-yard touchdown runs would have been 80-yard touchdown runs instead. When the Engineers had to drive the field in the second half, they did just that. All giving the Golden Tornado worse starting field position yesterday would have done was force Georgia Tech to go farther to score, thereby chewing up more clock, thereby limiting our ability to score to come back. Better placekicking yesterday would have produced fewer Georgia points, not fewer Georgia Tech points.

Go 'Dawgs!

Perspective

I’m willing to concede I was distracted by the pick six and horrible field position caused by kickoffs and fumble. I also was expecting lots of ground yardage and points by Tech. But you’re absolutely right. The reason I was expecting lots of yards and points from Tech is that I have come to expect less from our defense. Two of Georgia’s offensive possessions were cut short and became touchdowns for Tech. That’s 14 points (well, can’t remember if either of those touchdowns were their missed PATs) and could have been a 28-point difference if our offense had kept the ball.

But you’re right. If I’d had higher expectations from our defense (and I should have), my initial gut response would have been different. I’ve grown accustomed this season to watching our offense win the games with little or no D support.
