Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Mark May...

Yes, we hate him.  Despise him.  Feel sorry for a town being deprived of its idiot. Wouldn't P!&& on him if he was....Nevermind, I'll continue.

But yesterday, during the midday game reports, he managed to take another swipe at UGA.  Anyone else hear it?  While showing the Ohio State highlights, there was Chris Wells jumping over a DB.  Not really a hurdle, but a good jump nonetheless.  I can't recall the exact quote, but I'll get it as close as possible:  "Look at Beanie!  Reminds ya a little of Moreno, huh.  Actually, if that was Moreno, Mark Richt would be on the phone right now complaining about it not being on the broadcasts!  Hahaha!"

Actually, my first thought was "Dumbass, no one is calling because the one you just showed IS on television."  Then I realized I was wasting brain cells.

Seriously.  How does this guy find work?

Pascagoula . . .

As the old saying goes, “They can print whatever they want about Mark May, as long as they spell his name right.” ESPN’s college football coverage has long since ceased to be about information. It is sports entertainment. If the ESPN brass had to choose between being balanced and factually accurate or being entertaining, they would choose the latter. In true Machiavellian style, they must maintain the aura of credibility. Enough credibility to be, as Stephen Colbert might say, “truthy”, if not truthful. But getting a rise out of people proves their watching, and that’s all the WWL really wants. Unlike political pollsters, Arbitron tracks whether you’re watching, not whether you agree or disagree.

This is why I don’t write about him much, or link to his comments. It is why I absolutely refuse to link to Terrance Moore’s “writing” in the Atlanta Journal. Because in the information age, web traffic equals dollars. If you want to “vote with your wallet”, you must deprive the yahoos of their web traffic/chatter.

By contrast, if you want the Yahoos (proper name) of the world to employ more Dr. Saturdays and Doug Gilletts, you must likewise support them. Mark May finds work because people watch him. If his schtick becomes stale, he’ll go away. That is sports in the era of short attention spans.

Yea, I saw that too Pascagoula

it was just a nonsense comment – it didnt even fit in, and it sounded like he is jealous of Moreno getting attention for his jumps. A major difference is Moreno is a huge leader and playmaker no matter what the game and is why we have all the W. Chris Wells and OSU are off the radar this year and May can’t stand it.
