Georgia Bulldogs v. Tennessee Volunteers Game Day Open Comment Thread
Tennessee Volunteers at Georgia Bulldogs, Oct 11, 2008 3:30 PM EDT
You know the drill: game day is upon us, there is much to discuss, and the conversation takes place in the comments below. Have at it, ladies and gentlemen.
This is also the point at which this week’s Dawg Sports honorary game captain is announced. Naturally, the selection is specific to the opponent, as a Bulldog who has proven himself against that day’s foe invariably is chosen.
On a day on which a Mark Richt-coached team is looking to rebound from an early conference loss and make a statement about where this program now stands, the choice seemed obvious:

Go ‘Dawgs! G.A.T.A.

We haven't shown much of a rush so far
Not to say they don’t show flashes of playing well… but it looked like on that sack that Stephens just got knocked down with one swat of the hand. He just folded under the pressure.

Even if Stephens did fold,
a 3-man rush shouldn’t be able to get that close to a QB that quickly.

Very true....
The O line didn’t block on that play, but i think a better QB could have avoided the sack. I’ll have to watch some more before i chalk it up to an improved D-line.

That was precisely what we needed . . .
on the first series. Good route by the Tennessee receiver on that first play.
Thank you for going for it
We don’t need to start slow.

Offense
Much better playcall today. A few drops and stumbles, but nice job of taking what is there and also some sweet runs.
Isn't it great to have Southerland back
I couldn’t be happier he provides a boost in energy and leadership that offense needs. Great playcall on the screen to Chapas. Good point on the FB replacing the TE as a passing target.

Correct me ....
if i’m wrong, but wasn’t that the first time walsh has put it in the endzone on back to back kickoffs this season?
He's improving
He has too strong of a leg not to be able to, he’s obviously worked on it a lot, and becoming more consistent

Tenn
Starting to stack the line and bring heat. Our OL needs to hold up… and we need to catch sure TD passes also.
AJ... AJ... AJ
He still shows that he’s a freshman.

He put that one on the goal line.
Maybe things are improving on the placekicking front.

I Corinthians 9:24
Our D
Getting good pressure. We need to keep Tenn in 3rd and long all day. If we can get 7 here, then we take their RBs out of the game a little more each time.
I like the fade call to MoMass and AJ but....
….either they aren’t running their routes very well or Stafford isn’t putting the ball where it needs to be, but its not looking pretty, i think its a combination of both really. But Staffored seems to fire the pass a little too soon instead of letting the WR get a little seperation.

I wish we could know why,
Is it just inconsistency, is it calling the directional kickoffs? I have no idea, its just a bit baffling.

the last thing we need is another O-lineman down, a LT at that.

….the run blocking still needs a lot of work. Southerland is helping a lot though.

Offsides didn’t help
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
I Corinthians 9:24
That is why...
FGs instead of TDs kills you. We should be up at least 24-7.
That good run with Hardesty set up a PAP without any pressure from the pass rush… WR is a little bit faster and suddenly their on the doorstep.
We also looked confused on the play before the TD when Stephens threw it away.
We need
Good OL play, SH_T! Just saw the KO. We need to protect the ball cause I doubt a score is an option now.
I can't believe...
The 2nd run wasn’t a toss sweep. It has been our most effective run the whole game. I know you have a chance for a fumble or a big loss, but I think it was a smarter call there.
dropsies vs completions
Is it just me, or is it just amazingly different when we catch the ball versus not catch the ball? Or block vs not block.
Tenn, like other teams, is determined to shut down Moreno, so we need other options.
I thought Samuel would have performed better by now
i mean he made a lot of noise in spring and fall practice.
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

Some TN penalties helped....
….but a great drive by Stafford to get down there for a score!
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
I Corinthians 9:24
the dawgs have suffered from similar questions calls
and I dont feel bad if we get some our way.
Using Moreno in different ways is working.
2nd half
We need to capitalize in the red zone, get some more consistency in the run game and keep Tenn in 3rd and long
2nd Half
I would like to see continued short (5-10 yards) passes, play action, and that should free up the Knowshon show – which will be fun to watch and eat up the clock. The run game is suffering b/c, as we know, our O line is weak, Tenn D line is decent, and Tenn is determined to shut down Moreno.
Damn CBS annoucers “we got a mulligan, a freebee?” UGA has been plaqued with bad calls – I hate all these CBS guys.
follow up on 2nd half
the more I think on it, the more i would like to see Bobo help Tenn forget about Moreno, and then have Moreno bust a 60 yard TD – he deserves it.
Is it just the TN O or does our defense look pretty good
They seem to be flying to the ball and making great plays on defense.
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

I agree
you got good field position, don’t ruin it. TN seems to be having the same personal foul problems we have had the last few games.

i mean
crap – we can just fair catch it and have good yardage – do the players understand that? an illegal block when the D just stuffed um ruins the success
MoMass means Money in Pteradactyl
Nice grab on a low pass, he has showed great hands this year, and the ability to make the big play.
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
I Corinthians 9:24
It is obvious
We do not have the fade timing, play calling, execution, ability, etc today – so Bobo, STOP CALLING IT
Ok i think we might learn after this one.
Maybe. WTH are our recievers doing i don’t think its stafford as much as its the recievers not knowing where to go.
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
I Corinthians 9:24
Stafford's INT ratio
just doubled I think – which shows something is way wrong with timing, maybe they lost a little of the vibe with off week? We got to mix it up, keep it simple, keep momentum, keep the ball. Tenn is going to stop Moreno no matter what it seems – so, uh, take advantage of that.
Doing just enough to keep them in the game
Also, that was the first time I have really noticed Evans in the game. Can’t believe Tenn hasn’t gone after him more
i would have been happy with no fade calls
and a FG. I understand going for the kill, but didn’t we win a whole lot of games with David Green by being smart?
We can't let them hang around like that anymore
We have to score here.

well, on the good side
as the stupid announcers just said – Tenn TD’s came off of INT. So, dont do that. we are winning this game way more than the score shows, we just are finishing the drill.
I like Staffords effort
They are just not going to let Moreno beat them and stafford is not a good choice of someone to make beat you.

yea, no doubt on the FB
and this is what i am saying – use that FB, use that short pass, dont do Moreno x 4
how many times can i say stop the moreno x 3
everyone UGA plays is going after Moreno – so accept that and use it damnit!
But by the lack of points on the board it obviously shows the problem
….lack of red zone efficiency and smart play calling.

Right
The sad thing is that if we execute and have a little better play call, we would be killing them. If this team ever puts it together during a game, they will crush ANYONE, but until then we will just be a pretty good team that deserves to be ranked between 12-18
i completely agree
the talent is there – and this game has shown that actually catching the ball works. An in – sync UGA can own, but how to get them in sync, or why they are out of sync….well, CMR has to figure that out.
When was the last complete game we played against a quality opponent?
GT or AU? ( i don’t count Hawaii, even though that was as complete of a game as you can play)

OK - if Stafford
is having conversations and pointy talkies on the line in motion – it clearly demonstrates they arent on the same page.
i dont agree with this
we need to keep working the play action and the 10 yard passes, there is still 11 min to go
And Moreno going for 100
Which TN has not given up to a single RB this year.

Yeah . . .
I totally predicted that. It was one of my Dean Wormer Memorial “Double Secret” predictions.
change of subject
I was mad as heck as an 11 year old kid that Dooley kept handing it off to Herschel win it was obvious everybody we played had one agenda – to shut down herschel. We would have had the 81 championship if Dooley had mixed it up with herschel instead of depending on him solely.
That was a hard hit
Kinda close to a helmet-helmet colision to me.

and the hard hitting has just worn Tenn out. But Footdog is right – this could be 40-10, rather than a struggle at times
No we don't have to
I don’t want LSU wasting one of FL losses this year, either way we have to beat FL to win the east.

this drive was like an hour! no TD, but at least we are going to get a FG and not throw the fade.

and now the march begins – ugly win, but it’s in the bulldogs hands at this point. Jacksonville is critical as we all know. We could have won by 3-4 TDs, but sometimes coming off an break is tough. Now we focus….

like everyone is just happy to take a W and go home – i am seeing a lot of empty seats
I'm ok with a decent 12 point win over TN anytime....
….usually. But TN isn’t much this year, They just don’t have the QB this year. The only thing i want to see is UGA "Finishing the Drill.> on red zone possessions and still a few less penalties.

will FRACKING FULMER LET THE GAME END
do we really need 10 pass plays with a 2 possesion game and 15 seconds to go?
Difference
We could have put a rout on them like the did to us last year with a little better play. I mean we held them to 2 yards rushing, just think if we would have gotten up by 21 early like we should have. Then, we could have teed off on Stephens the whole game.
Thanks hoop
