MSM nomination

First and foremost, I nominate that the terms MSM and Main Stream Media be forever stricken from the English language along with 'ilk' and 'meme'.  Now, onto business.

I nominate Bruce Feldman.  Sure, he's not a blogger in the usual sense, but ESPN labels him as such and he posts every other day or two in rather short bits.  But he is the best college football writer out there today, and that includes everyone.  He writes for the behemoth that is ESPN but he clearly has his own voice.  He is amazingly independent and has great football knowledge.  On top of all of that he knows recruiting better than anyone not associated with a recruiting service.

So vote Feldman in 08 and buy Meat Market if you have the chance.  It is wonderful.

Good points . . .
. . . in support of Feldman and in opposition to the terms "meme" (which I despise) and "mainstream media" (I prefer "traditional media" or, when I am in a particularly snarky mood, "old media").

What's wrong with "ilk," though?

On 'ilk'
It's just another obscure term that was brought back to life by radio hosts, cable pundits, smarmy bloggers (this excludes you, Mayor), and pseudo-intellectual commenters to give their rantings a high-minded feel.

Throw bloviation in the garbage too.

Bruce Feldman also played semi-pro ball before becoming a writer.  While it may not demonstrate that he knows the game any better than most football writers (although I think it does), it definitely demonstrates a tremendous personal devotion to the game he covers.

Fair enough
I'm with you on "bloviation" (except as it is used by Senator Blutarsky, in the catch phrase "bloviation for the Bulldog Nation") and I agree that Bruce Feldman deserves a lot of credit (although the homer in me compels me to agree with MaconDawg's designation of David Ching as the best traditional media blogger).

I hadn't really thought about what had been done to "ilk," because it (like "awesome" before it) was a word I used correctly before it came into more common (in both senses of the word) usage.

I don't like "Smarmy"...
Unless it is always accompanies a picture of Mark May.  Any other use of the word should be strictly prohibited.

Question
Is it too late to nominate Stewart Mandel?
