Tebow: Cheater

Okay, I am not a fan of silly NCAA rules and most of these rules seem to be silly, but...

Star-divide

apparently Tebow might have violated a NCAA rule regarding recruits.

The term illegal really is not applicable.  Tebow broke no law; he broke a rule.

Nonetheless, I bet there are some signs being made for Jacksonville.  Tebow may also be laying the groundwork for a future cell phone sponsorship...

So that's why they call it Alltel Stadium!
Nothing would please me more than to be able to sling mud at Urban Meyer and the Gators for being cheaters, but this is pretty penny-ante nitpicking at a program that was a cesspool before Steve Spurrier cleaned up the morass and turned Ben Hill Griffin Stadium into "The Swamp."

Just check out this snippet from the article linked to above:

If Tebow placed the call, or Moore phoned Tebow, or Moore phoned Meyer and asked to speak with Tebow, the call likely would be legal. The Gainesville Sun, citing a source on its Web site Thursday, reported that Meyer believes Moore called Tebow after the trophy presentation.

Moore, Tebow and Meyer could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Likewise, Moore's girlfriend, Maranda Smith, has come up with an excuse of her own.

It's a technical violation of a hair-splitting rule that will never be proven because none of the parties with actual knowledge---Meyer, Moore, Smith, Tebow, and no one else---will ever own up to it.

It's good message board fodder, but it's a non-starter of a non-story that will be long since forgotten by the time we get to Jacksonville.

Let's keep our eyes on the prize. What will get settled by the St. John's River isn't which team's fans can come up with wittier insults; what's on the line on Duval Street is a national championship game berth.
