Mercer is off the team...
According to the Red and Black, Mike Mercer has been dismissed from the UGA basketball team. He was escorted off the practice facility at around 4pm today, carrying with him a black trash bag containing all his belongings. Coach Felton stated that Mercer had become a 'disruption' but was unclear about specifics. Is anyone really all that surprised at this point? Guess basketball ended a few months early this year.

i would like to know more
Hopefully, other details will prove me wrong and we'll find out that he was doing something worse but right now Felton is beginning to self destruct this team.
i don't think...
i wish to high heaven (what an interesting choice of vocabulary) that this program will one day get out of this rut, and become relevant on the national scale. see, i converted to the religious denomination that is the bulldog nation in the 90's, but i was originally born and raised in kentucky wildcat country. so as you can imagine, basketball is as important to me as football, and, at least in my opinion, showcases an university's athletic department's ability to be balanced.
Even though UGA has one of the most successful programs in the country as far as competitiveness is concerned, its basketball team holds the program back from being considered by the nation as an 'elite' program. and since the most publicized sports in college athletics is basketball and football, the fact that we as a school won the same amount of national titles as did the university of florida last season, counts for nothing because we won our titles in the so-called 'small time' sports, like gymnastics and tennis (with close finishes by the men's and women's golf teams, swim teams, and equestrian).
i know dennis felton has recruited quite a talented group of froshies this season, but the situation does not look good for 07-08. hopefully we can rebound from what is sure to become an abysmal basketball season, and send off great bulldog players like sundiana gaines and david bliss with a bang.
GO DAWGS!!!
